tinting?

Hey NAM,

Just a quick question. I picked up my Mini, finally , and had the windows tinted through the dealer. Just wondering how long I would have to wait before I can open my windows? It was done Tuesday Morning/early afternoon and I will be getting home around 7:00pm tonight...is that enough time? The weather has been pretty warm except for the night where it has gotten a bit chilly, but she has been in the garage throughout the night.

Thanks!
-Nick

The range I've always heard is "48 to 72 hours". (I waited 72 to be safe.)

It depends on the film. 48-72 hours is probably typical. The installer I used for Huper Optik film, recommends 1 week. I waited 1 week. What the heck, it's just a week.

Waiting...

My window tinter told me 3 days should do it, give-or-take based on the humidity. He put little adhesive 'seals' over the window toggles to remind occupants not to operate the windows for that duration.

The sunroof is factory tinted, so you can open it right away.

I waited a week to be safe. It depends on where you live and how dry it is. Some windows are completely done in a min. of 3 days... but - I have seen people remove the tint after 3 days. One week would be a good rule of thumb - if you want to play it safe.

I would guess that the dealer had an outside vendor come in and do it. Hopefully that's the case.

Technically, no. I knew I wasn't going to be able to pick the car up the instant it was ready, so I had the dealer outsource the tint job for me, so that the car was completely ready when we picked it up. (I couldn't bear the thought of picking her up and then dropping her off at a tint shop the next day!)

...nifty thing was it also meant that I was already 24 hours into my "no windows down" period by the time we picked it up.

I also recommend using someone who has tinted a few mini's before. Because the windows do lower when opening the door, they have to be aware of this. I went with someone recommended by the dealer who has done many Minis.
