Removing the Lip Under the Front Bumper

Has anyone tried doing this? How much did you take off? I have Eibach springs and the aero kit on my MCS and now the clearance from the pavement to the lip is only about 3". I'm thinking of cutting out the lip to give me more clearance under the car. Will there be a negative effect on the car's aerodynamic properties with out the lip? I ws thinking that since the car is already sitting very low, there would be less air going under anyways, so I can probably do without the lip. What do you guys think?

John

Mines scrapes on occasion running H-Sports with one passenger in the
car. It doesn't look like it's really doing anything than just warning the
driver that your front end is getting real low.

before it snaps off while hitting a large bump, you might want to try
cutting off about an inch and see. I doubt you'll notice any change.

Why do anything at all?

IT's plastic, so if it scrapes, it wears itself down. Also, as the car is lower, that little dam will keep a higher percentage of the air from going under the car. Just leave it alone, and mother nature will take car of shortening it!
Just at thought....

I concur. Mine is considerably scuffed along the bottom. Gave some thought to replacing it while laying on my back in the driveway looking at it one day and then realized that if I put a new one on it'd just scuff down the the point that there's just enough clearance for the way I drive on the roads I drive.

Think of it as a custom fit, caveman style.

Mine cracked well before I put the Hsports on and I cut it off. Now there is no more scraping...ever!

If I replace the front bumper, I will probably trim 1.5" off from the bottom edge.

I noticed yesterday that mine was cracked right in the middle. I can either repair it with a small aluminium plate and rivets on the back side, leave it alone, or cut it off.

I still haven't decided which way to go yet.

No cracks yet. But plenty of scrapping to let me know I am low enough! Also have to watch the parking stops (in parking spaces).

To those who have cut it off... what kind of tool did you use?

I run the H&R springs and I scrape all the time coming out of parking lots. I even scrape coming into our sloped driveway. I am gentle too. It just happens.
