Just installed the S rear bumper

Hi, I wanted to this project for two months now. However, I never have the time to get to it. Finally, I get a chance to install the bumper and completed in one hour. I can offer a DIY, if anyone needed.

Good job!

When I replaced my MCS with the aero kit last year, a MC owner upgraded his car with the MCS bumpers and side skirts from my car.

Thanks for your comment

Here is the instruction.

Tools you will need:
Car Jack (mini's car jack is fine)
#2 Phillips Screwdriver and a small screwdriver from mini's tool box.
8mm socket or fastener wrench

Jack up the rear so you have enough space to get to the screws in the wheel well with a small screwdriver. You do not need to remove the wheels.

Screws you need to remove:

1) Under the bumper:

-There is one screw on each end that can be removed by a phillips screwdriver.

-One fastener in the middle (behind the reverse light) can be removed by a 8mm socket or fastener wrench.

2) In the wheel well, behind the rear bumper:

-There are two fasteners that can removed by a small screwdriver from mini's tool box.

-One screw is located at the bottom toward the the rear bumper and the other screw is adjacent to the top of the bumper.

3) Under the plastic fender flare:

-You need to pull the the plastic trim with a tad of force.

-There is one screw hidden on each side of the car and can be removed by a phillips screwdriver.

4) Under the boot:

-Open the boot, there two are screws that is covered a big piece of rubber for dampening. Remove with a phillips screwdriver.

The rear bumper should come off with a little tug from the top.

Disconnect the light bulbs.

Exchange the plastic trim from "Non-S" to "S" bumper.

Start at one end of the bumper, gently push your finger on the plastic trim and pull on the bumper plastic hinge. This may require some patience.
Note: Place the bumper on a cardboard paper to protect the paint from scratching.

Re-install the bumper and enjoy.

did the plastic trim fit that bumper without any problems?? I put the trim from the s bumper on my cooper bumber for my center exhaust, and the trim doesn't quite fit right on the corners where the three pieces meet up.

YellowBellyMini, the plastic trim does fit onto the bumper perfectly. However, I was not able to rescrew on the screw that was behind the fender flare because the hole does not align, but all other screw came back on perfectly.

Coopers don't have the black mesh area on either side of the reverse light.

First here is a stock MC rear bumper

This is a stock MCS rear bumper

It has the duel grilles at the lower edges and no option for a body color, black or chrome bumper trim like in the MC.

Obviously you can get them at a MINI dealer.

Sometimes in the NAM Marketplace.

Usually a good selection on eBay.

I just did this! What a great "How To"!!! Thanks, Eurazn!

My plastic trim did not fit as well as it did on my standard bumper, though, but the hidden screws surprisingly did line up and I put them back in. Perhaps there were minor year variations? You can't really tell unless you own a mini but the gaps where it meets the fenderwell trim are slightly wider and the corners where the 3 pieces meet are about 1/16" away from the bumper. Like I said, it's hardly noticeable, but manufacturing tolerances might have changed just slightly enough to make this happen.

For me, the hardest part (glad Eurazn gave the tip to be patient) was taking the trim off and refitting it to the MCS bumper. Overall it was relatively easy and I'd definitely do it again given the choice.

i found that when i did my converstion, you need the following parts to make it fit:

2003 corner spoilers (cooper)
2004 lower spoiler (cooper)
2003-2005 MCS bumper

2005 corners and lower Cooper spoilers are all different.

my conversion cost about 150 bucks.

heres a pic:

I would implore you all to read my post under "Someone backed into Big Blue".

As you can see, "someone also backed into Zippy"!

My problem is that Zippy is a black MCSCa, and therefore the back bumper cover has the mounting holes for the Park Assist which is standard on the convertibles.

As you can see by my post referenced above, I am unable to get a new back bumper cover out of Mini.

You seem to have managed to get them relatively easily, but all for a regular MCS with no park assist.
Can anyone help me out in locating a new one for "Zippy"?
I am in the Western Suburbs of Chicago.
Thanks in advance, guys,
Carl
