Installed Orciari Scoops Today - PHOTO

I ordered these from Moss Motors Friday, received the package Saturday, took them to the painters Monday, picked them up last night, and installed them this morning. How is that for fast? I love the way these look with the M7 hood scoop!

Kudos to Moss and Hi-Tech Paint & Body in Santa Ana for the lightning quick service.

Make sure to cut out your cowl to get the air flow from the scoop

What I want to know is is there any discernable difference in performance? I guess that's one of the selling points: it increases the airflow to your intake.

Anybody have any numbers? Dyno? Buttt dyno?

I have had them for a year now, and love them. I would like someone to create a duct that runs from them to the circle behind the CAI to improve airflow. Due to the fact I have not removed any material from that area, there has been no performance gain, but I am sure there would be...

Running the MINI Mania CAI.

That is the Carbon Fiber one, right? They said that it is all one unit (scoops and all). So it is a no-go.

The search continues...

What do you mean?
Is there a piece that needs to be removed?

I was thinking about a pair of these for my mini, but was unclear what needed to be done.

Thanks,
SoCar S

Beautiful job. They really complement the hood scoop, and add needed balance to it. How was the install? Is it straightforward? I might get a set myself. Hmmmm!

hmmmmm-self defeating?

I think a wind tunnel test would be the most revealing for this mod-they do look cool, HOWEVER- I believe MINI intends the air intake location to take advanage of the naturally occuring low pressure area at the base of the windshield to draw in air. for example-see ANY nascar air intake pickup-ALL vented to the base of the windshield-also-ANY cowl inducted 69 Camaro-that hood was actually designed for the trans am cars of the era as it provided fresh air from a natuarly ocurring draw point. the windshield actaully forces air down into this area dn the forward facing scoops (vs the grilles) defeat that purpose. just an observation-anyone else/ other thoughts?

There are also numerous muscle cars that utilized a ram air concept instead of the forced wind-shield concept. I would tend to think both have there advantages. Just my 2 cents, not worth much more than that I suppose.

Wow, I am surprised to see this thread revived. I got them from Moss Mini (the price has gone down significantly - from $199 to $139 since I bought them)
http://www.mossmini.com/Shop/ViewPro...41&SortOrder=2

I would check with M7 before I ordered them, though. Peter was in the process of developing a set that are a little more functional and that which will match the M7 intercooler scoops a little better.

They are super easy to put on - all you need is a Phillips screwdriver to put on the screen and tabs. The old grilles pop out and the scoops fit in with a tab on one side and a few wing nuts on the other. It takes 10 to 15 minutes to change them out.

They come unpainted. I paid $175 to have them professionally painted but you can go the easier and cheaper route here and they will probably look just as good: http://www.myminiparts.com/proddetai...rod=ESP&cat=11

Stage1scott is absolutely correct about the low pressure area- these scoops will probably reduce the amount of air that comes in, so they should only be used for aesthetics rather than function.

I was thinking...
If the low pressure area is at the windshield, why then is there not a set that would take advantage of that?

Like a scoop pointing up? I believe it would be VERY loud and probably whistle.

what did you do to the front bumper? The lower aero grille is not there!!
Is it the picture or did you paint the headlight rings also?

Anyways I need to get my Orciari scoops installed.. Still can't decided whether I should paint them white or body color. I don't think they are functional. But they do look cool.
