If all we're worried about is something trashing the power steering fan...will this work?

Not sure of the diameter but jeez...seems like it would work fine. Maybe they available in titanium or even better....anodized red aluminium .

Talked to the service mgr. at my MINI dealer the other day... He said, all the techs at the shop also thought the location of the P.S. fan was a poor design, just waiting to "catch" a rock or chunck of ice and be wiped out... He also said that he had heard that MINI was working on some sort of a after production "grill" or some sort of protection device... He wasn't sure when this retro fit might be implemented... I hope they have a good stock of P.S. fans on hand until they get this problem soved...

anyone know the make/model of the fan, or what kind of CFM it pulls? I'll probley try the fan grill idea (seriously), but also thought of wrapping it with an open mesh (kevlar?) to protect from the 'little stuff'. I'm hoping MINI gets that retrofit done soon, and hopefully if we retrofit our MINI's it'll be part of the warranty too.
