Interior/Exterior New Seats - Resistor Pic

New Seats - Resistor Pic
I have some cool Sparo Torino's that I've installed TWICE now. And both times the airbag light has come on. (had it turned off inbetween)
I must be doing something wrong or the resistors are wrong or something. I have a November build '04 MCS. I used a 2watt 3.3 ohm resistor from NTE Electronics, part# F2W3D3. When i disconnected the batter I only disconnected the negative terminal which is what i normally do. This always shuts down the car completely and resets the clock and odometer so that should have been good. And a bmw mechanic i talked to yesterday concurred.
Here is a pic of the resistor plugged in. Does this look right? Thoughts?

spillman, i guess i will look for a 4ohm and try that. This resistor i used was recommended by someone else on the forum who had success. This one is definitely in there tight.
Thanks.
Also, I've been trying to use the Peake SRS tool to turn off the light and it keeps flashing "E". I'm thinking this is because it is still seeing a problem and can't clear it.

That looks right to me.
I did mine just like that but you have to make sure they are pushed in ALL THE WAY. (Sorry for the caps, just emphasizing.) They are difficult to push in completely as the wire bends but you should feel pretty substantial resistance when they are going in where they should be. I have had no problems with the airbag light coming back on after the reset.

mini d, any idea how far "all the way" is?
maybe you can use that pic as a guide.... for example, does the wire have to reach as far as the yellow area? Or just halfway into the pink area? See what I mean?
This is actually my second set of resistors. The first pair I was sticking in with the help of plyers trying to keep the wire from bending. And which ohm rating resistor did you use? And does direction of the resistor matter?
thanks!

Honestly.
All I remember is that the first time I tried to push in the resistor it went in say a quarter inch and then it stopped. I mean really stopped, I bent the wire on the resistor (by the way, I used the same resistor you are using) and it seemed as though I couldn't make it go in anymore. Then I went to the passenger side and started to push one side of the resistor in and it did the same thing. I pushed in the other and wiggled it a bit and it went in about twice as far (maybe one half to three quarters of an inch? I am estimating) but I thought that I had done it wrong. Well I wiggled the other side of the resistor wire which I thought I had pushed in all the way and it did the same thing. (Went in about another half an inch with a little effort too). So I went to the drivers side pulled the resistor out and pushed it in again with a little wiggle and it went all the way in. (Again sorry for being so vague but I really don't remember the exact amount it went in). Taped them up and they have been fine since.
Edit: I just reread your post, I believe the resistor went into the yellow, not just the pink. I don't think the direction matters. Hope that helps

ok, i just pushed them in as far as they would go and no dice. Well, the peake tool is still reading an E. And this is how the first set was installed anyway. So back to square one.
My problem is that the local dealer won't try to reset the light with the seats installed. I need to put the stock seats back first. And the new seats are a major biatch to get in. Once was enough and twice was already too much. :(
So anyway, being that no one knows if the Peake tool even works, I still don't know what the problem is. :(

Ya know, once that light has come on, fixing the resistor will NOT turn it off. So you could be doing everything right at this point, but if the lights already on it won't help. You need to have the light re-set by the dealer. Depending on how they are you might have to put the factory seats back in a hook it all up right to get them to do it. Then start over and remove the + battery cable this time. Take the key out and let the car sit for a few hours to be safe.
I had to actually grind a pin point in my resistor wire and then they went in beautifully. Check the factory pins as they have a point to them also.
2ohm may be to small. I think you need at least a 3.3.

You have to have the light reset.
I didn't put my resistor in until after the guys had already pulled the seats out and the light had come on. When I reset the light, that is when it remained off. You probably have everything correct, just need to reset the light. Dealers in So Cal are resetting the light, but you have to sign a waiver. (At least that is what I heard). I had mine reset by somebody that has the MINI reset tool.
