Interior/Exterior Ordered Wet Okole Seat Covers Today!
Ordered Wet Okole Seat Covers Today!
I've had these covers on several of my vehicles and they are absolutely awesome! For those who have never seen them, they are made of neoprene (wetsuit material). Although there are a few companies out there copying them, Wet Okole is the original and their quality is excellent. And unlike 99% of everything else you buy these days, they are American Made! But they are not super cheap - the covers came to about $575 for the front and back with all the options. I got the black covers with red inserts and piping.

please please (please!) post pics when you get them installed! I've been looking at them for awhile but was hoping to see better pics than the ones on their website. The black w. red inserts should look awesome in the MINI. I ordered color samples and the red seemed like a great match to CR.
Here are some pix of the covers on a LY MCS. The color match is just a little off (pix exaggerate this) but after a year, it is very close. I liked them well enough to order the back seat covers this year.
Note: Because neoprene acts as an insulating material, your heated seats will not be felt as strongly as an uncovered seat. I remove my seatcovers in the winter 'cause its damn cold in my neck of the woods during winter!

I've been looking at these seat covers for quite a while, and the fact that they make the heated seats not so hot may be an additional selling point for me. I can't ever use my heated seats, they burn my legs, even on the lowest setting, especially if I'm wearing dress pants for work. In jeans it's not as unbearable, but I still don't use them, ever.
scrunching
What prevents them from scrunching up and riding up off the seat bottom? The elastic straps I've seen before on other seat covers never stay in place with the twisting of your legs when getting in and out of the seat.
Also, do these interfere with the side airbags built into the seat bolsters?

These seat covers completely cover the seat and have special air-bag pockets. They are form fitted and more like the actual upholstered fabric that the seat is made of than a typical seat cover.

I've been thinking about these, but I wonder if anyone's seen the "wine" color in person. I've recently painted my dash VR to match the car, and I've got chrome covers coming for the vents/etc. I'd like VR/Black or something similar, but don't know how well "wine" would match.
Out of curiosity, I e-mailed them to ask the airbag question. The response:
Yes, we have tested our seat covers to make sure they work with the side air bags. You can even see videos, please click on the link below:

The last set I had - red and black also - lasted for about two-and-a-half years but they faded quite a bit because I didn't have tinted windows and I didn't use the UV spray on them.

wet okoles are very high quality stuff; you get what you pay for, in this case, is true.
uv spray is crucial. my first set that i bought for my beach p/u, i didn't uv spray it for about a year. at that time i did notice the color was already fading. bought the uv spray and applied it once, and my wet okoles are going 10 years later. now within the last few years they did start to distintegrate at certain wear spots, ie. the corners, but only the superficial layer, not straight thru. overall, i'm very satisfied, especially when i think about it, i only sprayed it once, left it unprotected for one full year, and my p/u is never ever in the shade. only protection it's had its full life is some legal tint, which i believe in hawaii is 35%.
so, of course, i got a front set for my brg/w mini, black with green piping.
and immediately uv sprayed it. looks the same as the day i bought it, 1 1/2 years ago.

Are Wet Okoles any good withstanding summer heat? My #1 problem with leather and especially leatherette is that I sweat a lot on my back and legs while driving. I don't mind the heat that much (open the window), but with the leatherette seats it's major PITA.
I regret not getting regular material now.
Also, what about winter cold? Sure I got heated seats, but the main problem is that when you get in, it's COLD. And for some reason, I have to drive the car for seats to warm up - maybe it has something to do with higher RPMs to rotate the alternator faster - I've tried running the car on idle for about 15 mins, seats were still cold.
