Since when did carbon fiber become rice? Maybe I missed that memo.

yeah, last time i checked carbon fiber isnt rice when its used on any race cars and $250k+ street cars. besides, its only rice if the entire body kit is carbon fiber, or it is left unpainted in the form of a hood or decklid.

That memo was released about a year ago. Did you get the new memo? The one stating that CF is played out....the lambo doors too

Obviously CF isnt rice on actual race cars, because they replace whole body panels and stuff to LOWER WEIGHT for their race cars.....no offense, but replacing PLASTIC mirror covers , plastic hood scoops, or plastic dashes with CF will not change your vehicle's weight one tiny bit...hence, some people call it rice...

Since people started using it to dress up their cars to give off an illusion of "speed" or "performance", which is basically what the mirror caps/scoops and wing are (until you can show me good, hard evidence regarding the wing).

If you want to do the hood or other body parts to save weight then there is nothing wrong with that, just make sure you paint the thing.

http://www.racers.jp/ They do love to throw the BMW roundel around on a MINI, not my style--but that's another thread all together.

Why would I paint CF that has been clear coated? Am I missing something? Can paint provide a textured look that CF can? Hmm, I need to tell all these 40 something folks on the Ducati Monster forum that their Monster sprocket covers, tanks, seat cowls, exhausts, heel guards, are all a bit ricey. They may be confused...

I don't think those look good on a Mini, maybe on a Japanese car of some type. And I'm partial on CF. It can look good on some cars but I think it's more look than functional.

I'm with MISFITOY, regarding the "stepping on toes." There's are a couple of us that are shooting for a certain "look/vibe". Shoot, if I could do the whole car is clearcoated carbon I'd be all about it.

That's the great thing about owning a Cooper- it's all about your car mirroring your personality. Happy motoring.

No, painting it isn't going to cancel out the loss in weight. It's too significant.

Also, can we lay off the "rice" comments? It's idiotic to use the term when the majority of unpainted carbon fiber hoods, wings, and crappy body kits I see are zip tied onto some caucasion teenagers Civic as he drives to school to impress the ladies. You love your car, and I'm sure they love their cars. Lets leave it at that This is a car forum, after all
You are way off dude. Lets say the assembly weighs 65 lbs.... thats motors, cartridge, bolts, and glass.... replace the GLASS with CF and you are going to save about half that weight, not 45-50 lbs. On top of that, the weight savings on a CF boot and bonnet are not all that great... good quality stuff will save you about 20-25 lbs on the bonnet.... NOT worth the $800 in my opinion.

But hey, if you like the look of CF by all means enjoy it.

It would be nice if the vents faced the front and had a duct that you could channel to your CAI. Although even more functional this would probaly not look as good.

Ive GOT the CF front splitter.... I define rice as this:

A car done completely tastelessly that makes a horrid noise and/or has a rediculous body kit..... examples of rice:

Old beat up cars (CRX, Cavalier, etc) and that make less than 100 horsepower but has a 5 inch exhaust tip and carbon fiber hood

ANY car with pieces of the body kit in the wonderful color PRIMER

A general rule of thumb is this.... if it looks like a piece of ****, sounds like a piece of ****, but the guy driving it thinks it IS the ****..... its rice.
