Any feedback from anybody installing these air horns from RSpeed:

http://www.rspeed.net/mini/item.asp?...p;prod=625-100

If so, good / bad? Pics are always appreciated.

Thanks.

Sound clips would be appreciated as well. How about a comparison. Original MINI horn followed by the rSpeed one. That'd be cool to hear.

I have a similar concern, finding some available real estate under the MCS bonnet. I'm sure somebody across MCO land has found a solution.

P.S. What is the electrical connection like, bare wire, F/M connector,...? Thanks.

FYI, Got this e-mail back from Mini Mania on how to install the horn kit:
-------------
Hello,

Thanks for your product information request on the Hella Horn Kit, I will
look into it. Installation of horn kits on the New MINI is problematic
because of space issues. We see several locations that look like they will
work, and the install and instruction set is on the schedule for the near
future.

Regards,

Product Manager

Appears this product isn't ready for the AM public. Still interested though. I'll wait for MMs response back as to a solution.

Had these horns on my Miata - a really easy install - but removed them after 18 months. Miaita web pages have discussions about the horns clogging and 'getting stuck'. Seems that moisture can cause the reed in the horn bells to get stuck. After about a year, about half the time I went to use the horn I got a sort of sick squeek rather than the air blast that they were capable of. After a few times of the horns failing in Miami rush hour traffic I replaced with an oversized electric horn. Not as classy sound but it hasn't failed me yet. Spousal unit now parks the Miata next to my MCS.

Proposed solutions were to put nylon over the horn bells to keep out crud - but I never found crud. And routine squirts of WD-40 into the bells for lubrication - which got tossed out of the horn when you used them and...routine maintenance for the horn?!?

Advice... MOUNT HIGH. I had a set of air horns on another car and they died after 1 too many splashes.

Indeed high. I had used several pair from old Triumphs and after a while, if you don't keep the oil in, you'll get a high pitched Hennhhhh! instead of the Honk. Also, put pantyhose over the horn. Keep oiling them.

Anyone found any sound bites yet from the horn?

Ever heard a junk truck at a construction site? That's what they sound like.

I agree about the upkeep. I have 3 sets of air compressers in my garage from previous horns in a Miata. I mounted them high, I oiled them, I put fome rubber in them, I covered them... nothing kept them going. There is nothing more embarrasing than rolling into an event or somewhere your trying to show off and hearing something that sounds like it should be on a clown car.

I also had a pair of Red Fiamm air horns. They had a great sound--more of a "get the heck out of my way" rather than a "F--- you!" I had them in my old chevy pointed downwards to drain possible moisture and bounce the sound off the pavement. The install was tricky since all the hardware hard to be put together from garage scraps.

I would still consider putting them in the MINI and might at some point. The only problem is there's absolutely no room in the front bumper!
