Visor Sticker Removal Directions!

A lot of people have been enquiring about removing their safety stickers lately, so a did a step-by-step guide.

Use a thumbtack to take off the screw caps. Be careful not to damage any visible areas.

Remove the two screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

Carefully disconnect the wire connector – they pull apart with no clips.

Protect the areas that you don’t want to have exposed to the chemicals – do a better job than this!

I used lacquer thinner. DON'T USE THIS! IT'S WAAAAY TOO STRONG!

Watch the sticker – you can tell when it is ready to remove. It will peel off.

Clean the visor with soap and water and put it back on.

great pics on the visor removal!!....now, I can feel safer about using some sort of chemicals and not have splashes on my dash...my visor seems to be the rubberized directly printed on type of decal....not sure if I should use 91%, denatured, or goo gone or goof off....but think I'll start with soaking in 91% as that seems the safest

I wouldn't use the lacquer thinner like I did. It is much too harsh and discolored the backside mirror plastic.

Most people use denatured alcohol. It's relatively cheap, tho' you use just a small amount. What to do w/ the leftover? Find someone with a fondue set, as it's the fuel most use.

If you leave the sunvisor in place, be sure to cover your car interior well. GBMINI got some on his brand new dash and "deglossed" part of it.

I've done damage to past cars, so I've decided to leave the stickers on the visors for fear of doing it again. The visor stickers don't really bother me like the one on the dash did. Fortunately, that one easily peeled off.

Rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball or pad work well. Dampen the cotton ball/pad and rub it on the decal, repeat as necessary until the decal begins to wrinkle and roll up.

Just tried

Used denatured alcohol - I don't know if it was ever tried on an '05 but I ruined both visors trying this.

I think MINI used a more powerful adhesive on the new model. Sticker came off in a billion pieces and after 6 hours of scratching it off, the adhesive wouldn't come off. So now I have sticky, white residue boxes on my black visors.

Bad idea!!!

Sticker Removal - Anthracite

Has anyone with anthracite visors removed the stickers? I am wondering if the darker color makes the job more difficult.

I used 92% Denatured and soaked a paper towel.....folded to only cover the sticker and let soak for 5 minutes. (Visors still in car)....

Remove towel and peal sticker. Both done in 7-8 minutes with no problems at all.

I simply used Goof-Off, soaked it for 1-2 minutes without removing the visors and peeled them right up. About 20 minutes start to finish for me.

Just to repeat an earlier question (not yet answered, as near as I can tell)... Has anyone done anything like this in an 05 with anthracite interior? I'm skeptical this process will be appropriate in such cases, but I'd love to find out I'm wrong!

I have the above, and I took mine off with denatured alcohol. At certain angles it looks perfect! at others (when the top is down and the sun is at the right angle) you can see a 'box' of shiny. It's much better than the white and yellow and when the weather cools down, I'm going to attempt it again to see if it will take the rest off.

As I said, I prefer it to the big warning yellow sticker, but I'd like to see the occasional shiny box disappear for good.

I don't look up there much, so I don't care.
Motoring to me is both feet ready to respond, both hands on the wheel, and eyes going from looking ahead, rearview, both sides, glance at the dash, ahead, rearview, both sides, glance at the dash, ahead, rearview,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I agreee - in a coupe at least, I never see them. I thought it would bother me, before I took delivery. I certainly noticed them in the showroom, and I notice them in other cars...but when I'm actually driving the Mini - you can't see them!

Does not work. There's a thread floating around here or MINI2 that explains why, I just can't remember off the top of my head. Use Goof-Off and you'll be all set.

If you use Goof Off, just be careful not to get it on your clear plastics. It destroys them, which I learned the hard way on my last car

Great visuals! Thanks. Now my question is...I sucessfully removed the stickers a while back with denatured alcohol but for some reason, there is a grey area (not sticky just discolored) left on the visor where the sticker was. I can't get it off with anything I've tried: Goof-off, soap and water, acetone, Comet.

Any suggestions? Much appreciated!

guys. Can you just buy the visors without those stickers on them?
Just a thought.

That's exactly what I was thinking It might also be a good recovery for those who have not been happy with their results. I'll check with my dealer.

My dealer quotes $52 for new visor and verifies that it will come with the sticker

Maybe we could just put a less objectionable sticker over it or to cover less than ideal results. Any suggestions?

Is it possible that the European version visors don't come with the sticker?

Good question. What is the difference, other than possibly not having a sticker?
