Anyone with chrome fresh air vent covers?

This is one mod I've wanted to do for a long time, but all I can find are what seem to be chromed plastic pieces that cover the existing black plastic, not a replacement. If anyone was really vouching for them, I might lay out the $70 for them, but opinions seems pretty scarce. A search turned up only a couple of buyers, and no photos. Mossmini.com and triple-c.com sell what seems to be the same item. I'd really like an actual metal replacement. Anyone with experience to share?

I checked, and they're also on ebay for a lower price (~$60 with shipping), but the seller has horrible feedback. Since they use the same photo as Moss and triple-c, I assume it's the same product.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for the photo (my car is chili red, too!) and the info on Mini Mania. Wow, $240!!! I guess that shouldn't surprise me, they sell the plastic ones for $90. Looks like I've got some pondering to do... Wonder if anyone here has the stainless ones? I vaguely remember now someone having bought similar ones from a place in Germany, and saying that the fit was imperfect. The website was hard to understand and no one spoke English, so no one else seemd to pursue it. For some reason I can't get that thread to show up in a search...

Still looking for these... I see that Mini Mania sells a stainless replacement set for $160 (link), but they are listed as fitting '02s and '03s, and I now have an '05. Does anyone know for sure whether or the OEM part has changed in some way so that these wouldn't fit? I've e-mailed the question to Mini Mania, but I trust y'alls opinion more.

Edit: According to MINI of peabody, the part # hasn't changed, so hopefully these will fit.

Ebay pulled the listing. Not a good sign.

Actually, that post was from back in March, so I think the eBay item just expired.

I have a Jet Black MINI myself and have also considered picking up some chrome cowl vents! At MINI Sport, they offer some stainless steel units which would go for about $100. I haven't ordered anything from them before, but I'm sure you could get some shipped across the pond without too much hastle! Hope this helps!

Not sure how to create a hyperlink (I know, it's sad!) so here's the address:

Bad news!

I got this in an e-mail from Mini Mania:

"The 'original' cowl vents on the 02-03 were three piece units with a foam filter (rim, grille, filter). MINI found the foam disintegrates fairly quickly so they changed to the one piece plastic unit and made them the standard replacement for all cowl vents.

The NMA1067 is designed to fit the earlier three piece units where the grille and filter is removed and replaced with this chrome piece. This is why NMA1067 will not fit on the later model one piece grilles."

Going back and reading this now, I don't get it. Why couldn't MINI just use a higher quality filter? What does the housing have to do with it?

Anyway, I broke down and ordered the adhesive ones, mainly because they look so great on Minirox's car. They arrived today, but I don't know when I'll be able to install them, since the temp has to be at least 50F for the adhesive to work. I'm probably going to have to borrow a hair dryer from someone, unless I want to wait until April.
