Cruise control relocation

So im planning on swapping the steering wheel on my r53 (I know, the airbag) but I’m trying to preserve my cruise control. I had an idea of taking the switch out of the old wheel and mounting it on the dash.

found this thread where someone did exactly what I was picturing: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...elocation.html

but yeah then I realized I’m an idiot and have no idea how to realistically do this with my limited tools and knowledge haha.

So I’m just wondering if anyone has any idea if I could maybe buy an aftermarket cruise control switch and wire that to the existing harness? Or if anyone has any other ideas on getting this done?

thanks!

The wiring is already behind the dash. It just runs through the clockspring to the steering wheel. All you have to do if figure out which wires they are on the dash side of the clockspring and rewire/mount the control pod. Might be a little tedious to figure out but totally doable. If you find the wiring diagrams it should tell you wire colors and (maybe) locations. Looks like a cool mod.

Good luck.

oh sweet! I’ll pop the dash out then and take a peek. Not sure about what kind of bracket I’d have to make to have the switch work tho.
