Schroth Harness Installation

I saw some detailed installation instructions on the Schroth Harness in a thread only one or two weeks back, but have not an idea where they are now. It had color pictures and the whole shebang. Can anyone link me to them? I got my harness and want to get this thing in on my day off tomorrow.

Not a 20 min job folks.

My father use to use the very same words for some kind of job when I was little, “it will only take 20 minuets to do”, but 5 hours later as we’re still working on it…

You need to have the right tools and the right size. You also have to know which buckle goes where. And don’t forget it needs to go under the head rest.

5 hours is what it took, but I can do it in 20 minutes now.

The first time is the worst, after that it’s all cake. Funny thing is you only have to do it once.

remember that if you're attching via the rear seat child harness points, they are designed to take only 28kgs which is not good enough in a heavy impact. It will not protect you if placed their, you're better off sticking with standard belts in that case unless you're short and get the sub 45 degree angle needed for the straps. Otherwise a bit more work and money is needed.

Maybe i'm wrong....but i thought the schroth harnesses attached to the rear belt points, not the child seat attachment points?

You are correct it does connect to the standard seat belt points with the new bolts that are included in the kit.

Do you lose the use of the back seats with 2 schroths?

A Schroth is not something you want to use daily, so it should not interfere with the back seats.
Once strapped in with a harness like this you no longer can reach the radio, climate controls, mirror. And forget about getting into the clove box ...

They are really just intended for those who want better support during DEs if allowed by that particular club. Then, if you use one there, you MUST also have one for the passenger seat if you have an instructor.

... and don't forget to close the door before you buckle up... Once you're strapped in, about the only thing you can reach is the steering wheel, the shifter, and the e-brake handle...

Yep, one time I had gotten myself all strapped in at autox and realized that I hadn't pulled my door to. I was trying to yell for someone to shut it but noone heard me so I drove up to the starting line with my door hanging open and asked the starter to close it

I really need to get a passenger side one for HPDE's

As onasled said, you don't really want to use them daily (although you could as they are DOT approved. But the wonderful thing about these is that they clip in and out in a matter of seconds so you don't leave them in the car when you aren't using them

You really don't lose the back seat area....except if you want someone to sit back there and use the harness at the same time....in a year and a 1/2 only one time has anyone sat in the rear seat. Most of the time, around town, I have mine pulled out. Too much of a pain to get in 'n out of the car. When a good twisty run is coming up I just pop them back in, it only takes a min per side to put them back in, which is the cool thing...if I can remember which side goes where ...passenger and driver sides are different. If you have them cinched up tight, the back seats will not fold flat....maybe another reason to take back seats out? I absolutely love the way they hold you firmly in the seat...and on long trips they seem to relieve back strain....'cuz you are sitting up straight instead of hunched over. Gotta love proper posture.
