Changed shift ***** on an auto?

Has anyone changed out the shift **** on a Gen3 auto transmission? I have a Flameball **** for an auto but my MINI dealer said it doesn't work with the way the button release works on the shifter.

I'd really like to switch it out for something custom but it seems like no one has a solution.

I have a FlameBall on my Vette. They make some nice stuff. But, in this case, I agree with TheSheriff. CravenSpeed is the way to go.

Here’s mine. This is the Craven Speed auto shift ****. It is a super easy install and you simply pull up to shift into or out of Park and Reverse. It is a very well made piece and is an adaptation of their weighted manual ****. The top cap can be swapped. I have one with a 6 speed manual shift pattern on it. I love the fact that it fools the valets at the dealership when I go for service. They think the car is a manual, but they can’t get it in gear!

Question, after I installed my Craven shifter I noticed that I had an extra piece. It was a small o-ring and i couldn't find anything in the instructions about it. Did any of you have this o-ring also?

I don't know if I would feel comfortable fooling someone who will then be driving my vehicle.

Hey bluonyx... The o-ring is provided to fasten the shift boot to the groove on the bottom of the stainless core piece.

Cheers!

Thanks, they gave me two, the larger one for groove on the shifter stainless core piece and another one the diameter of a pencil. Guess someone just goofed, or maybe it just fell into the bag.

The smaller one should have been installed on the lockout rod that goes down in through the shift lever. There's a groove about 3" up from the bottom of the rod... helps prevent the rod from rattling. It should have been pre-installed from CravenSpeed, but if it's not there go ahead and put it on when you have an opportunity to do so. Could be an extra o-ring by mistake too.

Took it apart when I got home and yup, no o-ring on groove for the lockout rod. Easy fix, thank you StevePDX.

Had this installed on my F54, really liked the shifter, but ended up trading the car in... Kept the shifter if anyone wants to buy it used.... in the classifieds here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...rts-avail.html

Same here. I usually ensure they are aware of it before they try to pull that lever with all their strength.

I was in the same boat when I installed mine a year ago.

Thanks a lot Steve! Somehow that part of instruction is missing from the installation manual. Luckily I still had that O-ring in my cravenspeed box and got it installed today. While at it, I used a tiny piece of 3M tape to fix the slight play of the ****. Now it’s solid and feels the way it’s supposed to.

Yeah, that little o-ring was supposed to be pre-installed on the lockout rod, so I didn't include it in the instructions. Sometimes it gets missed and just thrown in the baggie. No big whoop.
Nice on the 3M tape! When developing the kit I noticed enough of a difference in tolerances between MINIs that we had to err on the side of caution and some fitments may experience a tiny bit more play than others. My personal F60 has an ever-so-slight wiggle more than my buddies JCW F56 which is almost non-existent. Just the way it is.

Cheers!
-Steve
