Seat Swap compatibility

Hi, first thread here-

I have a 2013 mcs and I am looking to change the seats from leatherette to leather- I have read through many threads on this and am just looking for some clarification with regards to the wiring. Looking on realoem it seems that the passenger position sensor was changed in 03/2012 (# 52102755847) does this mean that I can only use a seat from that date onward? If so, that does limit the options some. I read that that the sensor is deep in the base of the seat, wondering if could be transferred.

Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with this?

Thanks much!

OK,

So I picked up a set of beige leather seats from a 2011, very nice shape. The passenger seat does not appear to have a seat position sensor on the rail like my 2013 seat does. Apparently there was no passenger position sensor until 2012? So, trying to figure out my options here- I can transfer the sensor, but yellow under seat socket is not set up to receive it I would think. Have not opened it up yet. is the cover swappable? Any experience with this? Have not come across any threads on this since it only seems to apply to 2012/13 cars. The 2011 seats were the newest I could find on the open market.

My hope is that I can transfer the lead with the larger black plug with the yellow shell from my original seat into the new one. That lead originates in the black box below along with the weighted switch wiring and the position switch wiring.

So.....
For anyone interested, it seems to have worked. Swapping the black plug within the yellow connector, which has wiring for the position sensor on 2012/13 cars into any 07-11 car seat will work. I didn't have a rivet gun so I used a flat bolt to attach the magnet. I had also planned to swap over my seat belt tensioners as I've read tensioners from car accident seats will often set of the srs light, but they are a different model, shorter with a hex bolt not star, and single wire. might have worked as the plug looked the same, but stuck with the '11 ones and no light so far.
So despite being advertised as compatible across the 07-13 range (on the auction site), these seats are not simply plug and play.

Interesting.I got a set of 2012 leather Lounge seats to install in my 2009 JCW. So far the plugs look the same but will look at the two more closely.

What you want to look for is the plastic magnet holder on the 2012 passenger inside seat rail. Your 2009 will not have one. The car won’t be set up to receive it, however it may work fine if the section of black plug within the yellow is vacant. If not, swapping that black plug was pretty simple. You could tie the old one off and leave the position sensor intact. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Bringing this back, swapping seats from a 2009 JCW to a 2013 JCW. The 2013 JCW is now throwing an SRS passenger position seat sensor code. As you said, the older seats do not have position sensors. Can you give any more detail on how you were able to integrate the position sensor into the older seat?

Thanks

M
