BMS Clutch Stop F56

Hi guys just wanted to share with you a little mod I did. As you know the catching point on our clutch is so far up that it makes 1st to 2nd gear a bit jerky with all the torque. The clutch stop gets rid of all that dead end space towards the rear to make shifting faster and smoother. The clutch stop that BMS sells is for the R56 but with literally 30 seconds of modification it will fit our F56 and so far it feels amazing. I am using two rubber shims and so far I feel that it is perfect. With the clutch fully engaged, I only need to let off about 2 inches for the clutch to start engaging. I think 3 shims might be a bit too much.

Here is the BMS clutch stop.

Our OEM clutch stop has no deep hole behind it for this to go into. What I did was I drilled a small hole through the OEM clutch stop, just smaller than the diameter of the BMS plastic peg. Replace OEM stop in original hole. CUT the BMS clutch stop a little less than half way. Put the shims in and pushed it into the hole in the OEM clutch stop. This keeps the OEM stop even tighter in the hole and with the plastic peg cut, it doesn't hit the back part of the hole. It doesn't move and there's no chance it is going to pop out. For $10 and 30 seconds of your time you can really change the feel for your car.

If it's like the R56... It's directly behind the clutch pedal. Look where the pedal itself comes in contact with the floor when you press it all the way down. Only about the size of a quarter and not much thicker.

Ok whew, I see that. On the site instructions, granted its a BMW, they were taking panels off. Seemed like way to much of a hassle

How many spacers did you use?

I used all 3. Since I didn't drill into the stock one I measured and the stock one was basically the width of one of their spacers. All 3 is very close to the stock one with 2 on the clutch stop.

Im pretty amazed how fast the shifts are. It totally eliminates the dead spot in the clutch from the time the pedal comes off the stop to when the gear engages. There is virtually no lag time at all.

Im pretty impressed .... actually, very impressed. You dont really know how bad it is until you feel how good and how much a difference the clutch stop makes.

Cool. I had one on my R56 and liked it. Best $10 mod out there. Guess I need to order one for the F car now. Thanks.

Edit: Ordered. They've had that intro price + free shipping for years now, but I'm not complaining.

Finally got around to installing mine. I did mine like the OP did and it works like a champ. I was getting an oil change and setting my tire pressure before the Dragon and remembered I had the part in my hidden compartment, so had it installed.

I've had mine in for a few months too, installed just like the OP. I went with 2 washers. I'm considering removing one now that it has gotten colder, though.

Put this on my F55S last night and what a difference! Did as the OP and used 2 washers with the stock clutch stop. Shifts are smoother and overall a better driving experience.

Does this affect clutch engagement with starting the car? Sorry about the long gap. 😃

Great! Not used to having to have the clutch on the floor to start the car. My wife can barely reach.

Thanks!

the benefit is that it makes the clutch engage faster, technically. It reduces the full push needed on the stock cars. You'd be surprised how much faster the clutch does engage with that stopper in

When I test drove a few manual 2019 MINIs, all of them had a very low clutch engagement. That stopper would cause the clutch not to be able to disengage.

The stop is adjustable by taking off the rings

Yep - I put this on my previous BMW and it was my first mod when I bought my F56S. It is one of the best things you can do to this car in my opinion. Not only does it work great as advertised regarding eliminating the dead spot, but for folks like me who are short or have short legs (I have a 29" inseam) it really helps to allow the seat to be pushed back a bit further. I really like this as now I'm not so close to the dash and I can use the arm rest much better.

Quote: That stopper would cause the clutch not to be able to "Fully" disengage. That was my thought also, why would the manufacturer set the engagement point so high for no reason?
