Mighty Stripes?

Want to replace my stripes on my '09 MCS with the same style and color stripe as the factory stripes. Has anyone used the Mighty Stripe sets with the separate accent stripe? How hard is it to install these this way and have them look good? Any tricks to getting them lined up? Does the stacked vinyl hold up well? Were they cut on the ends to match the original stripes or did you have to trim them? Thanks

Don't know about how they send their's out but I'm sure they are ready to install.
I've replaced mine twice. It is easy to do provided you don't rush and you've no interruptions.
When you contact Mighty Stripes, ask about laminated bonnet stripes. The first set I replaced weren't and they got scarred badly from suicidal bugs. The second set are laminated, been on for about 5 years and don't have a mark on them.
I'll PM you some detailed hints (some I learned the hard way the first time thru) on how to proceed.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

Actually I know they send them out with the accent stripes separate from the main stripe. That's the part that worries me for installation.

I actually found the accent stripes on my install to be the easiest part.
IMO, once you have your main stripes applied, the accent stripes are easy to slide up next to the main stripes. You'll have plenty of time before they set to adjust them and make sure they are
tight with the main stripe.

Go for it.

note* I'm referring to stripes I bought from mighty stripes also

Thanks but doesn't his instructions say to put them over the existing main stripe for best adhesion?

ummm. That sounds wrong. But, maybe I am.

So, what your saying is applying the accent stripes on top of the other wide stripe ? I would say no to that. But that might be an option. Never thought about doing that and I don't remember reading that.

I slid them right up next to the wide stripe on both sides and had zero issues with adhesion.

Let me find a pic.

I have since trimmed the stripes about 1/4 inch from the grill since this photo.

1. Apply the accent stripes over the existing stripe for best adhesion. Application surface must be cleaned of
all wax, oil and grease.

Interesting. that would make the overall width of the stripes 1/2 inch narrower.
But it may make for a harder install for sure.

Did they need to be trimmed or are they pre-cut on the ends?

How much trouble would it be for you to measure the width of your stripes? Both with and without the accents.

Let me look. I was just reading the install instruction. And I see now what you're talking about.

the measurements are:

Main Stripe: 4.5 inches

Accent Stripes are .25 or 1/4 inch in width (1/2 inch with both of them)

So total width on mine is 5 inches.

Also, These are the "standard' stripes from Might Stripes.

My originals are 5" wide, so if I do it according to those instructions, it won't cover the old stripe area. Which after I get them off, might leave marks where they were. I guess you must have them on right.

This bidness with the accent stripes being an add on seems strange. My last stripe order came from Aesthetic Creations, stripes part of the sheet. The guy was a one horse show and did fantastic work. A bunch of whingers b1tched about how slow he was to respond (just one guy running a busy business) he got torqued out of shape and shut down his shop. Otherwise we'd still have a resource for one piece stripes.

Soap box: Next time you see someone ragging on a vendor because of 'slow to respond', remind then that the MINI vendors are small mom and pop shops, not big box chain stores with a huge staff.

I'm into astronomy and it's nothing to order a scope and wait months to years for it. So I'm fully aware of mom & pop businesses taking time sometimes.
I think the internet has made us impatient.

We used Mighty Stripes for our R53. They offer a plethora of ideas for truly making your MINI your own. Plus, they're great quality and cost much less than Genuine stripes from MINI. For the install, you can review our R53 stripe install on our site under MINI > Tech Info (tab at top). It gives some good tips and advice for installing the stripes.

So based on the last few posts, I went to the Mighty Stripes website to check them out. As with some other Mini-centric web-stores, when you're filling in the details of your Mini to see what they have available, your choices are:

Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper S
06-10 Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper S
11-13 Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper S
Mini Countryman
Mini Clubman

No Coupe, no Roadster, no Paceman. Not to mention the 2014+ Clubman, 4-door, and Hatchback. Do they have stripes for these models? No way to tell.

I don't mean to pick on Mighty Stripes - I'm sure they're a fine company. But I have to say in my short time owning a Coupe (and seeing the same for the also low-selling Roadster), some of the Mini sites that don't even mention the R58 and R59 make those models seem like the red-headed stepchildren of the Mini family.

Apologies for the tangent...

From their FAQ's page they have this email here to contact them about customizing: MightyStripes@comcast.net. I'd shoot them an email about your Coupe and see what they have to say.

Thanks everyone. Based on the help here I'm going to go with the MightyStripes. However, I have found a potential problem with my stripe removal in that my one fender portion of the bonnet has been repainted up to the stripe and there's a ridge. Not sure how this will play out for the removal as I need to talk to someone as to whether I might pull the paint up with the stripe. I'll let you know how this works out.

Thanks.
