Are the horrible sport seats customizable?

I have a 2013 with sport seats and they feel like they were built for a 95LB 12 year old boy. My sciatic nerves are on fire after my 1 hour commute and after 6 weeks of it the pain is lasting all day and night.

I read many of the swap threads and don't want to deal with electrical or mechanical adapters, so unless I find a direct swap in, I'm thinking of having a shop add padding. Can this be done to these seats? If I can be raised up a few inches so the bolsters don't dig into my thighs I may not throw the car off a cliff.

I did ride in an '03 convertible last night with leather seats and they were awesome...I would love to find a set of those that dropped in and kept all functionality. I don't care about looks, they can be purple frakin polkadots as long as they're comfortable...

thanks,
jim

Sport seats

I purchased a Just a with the standard vinyl seats. Last year I found someone who was selling his sport seat covers off a Mini coupe. They are the ones that are cloth and have leather side posters and leather center front section. Before I had these install on my Mini I bought the seat lumbar support kits for the car. I had a local car upholsterer swap the covers out.

When you buy just the seat covers, the padding is attached to them. So when I had the covers swapped, I got the sport seat padding.

Does your car have the lumbar supports? you might just try having them installed to see if it helps.

I can sell you my vinyl front seat covers and you can have someone install them on your car.

There is a set of standard seats in the marketplace for $400, not sure if you are near socal. maybe the standard seats would fit you better?

The problem is the bottom, not the lumbar (though adding that is on my list once I start).

Feels like there isn't enough spring holding me up, plus the bolsters are too narrow/hard.

If I knew for sure of a seat that fit me I'd buy it, but like others have said, it didn't crop up on the test ride, only on a long commute. It also has 45,000 miles so perhaps there's some degradation too.

Thanks for the offer Soda but I like cloth, I sweat too much in vinyl. Interesting that the padding comes glued to the cover.

I think (hope) for $400 (+ shipping, I'm in MA), I can get the seats fitted mostly to me. I'll call upholstery shops, but I need one that knows about modern seats; many feature hot rods on their web site which have no modern gizmos.

thanks...

jim

Just buy the seats off the marketplace, save the boxes they come in and then sell your sport seats. You might even make a few bucks on the deal.

My burlap-quality cloth sport seats were irritating my legs and back no end. Cutting and discarding the back off a simple aftermarket seat cushion saved the car.

I used to think that, until I got into the habit of re-sitting myself dead central on the seat cushion after getting in, not just dropping into the car.

Sure, it sounds daft, but it works for me. Otherwise I find I've not been sitting with my hips level and that causes discomfort.
