Chrome Toggle Blanks

Does anyone know where you can buy chrome toggle switches to fill in the blank spaces on the F56 if you didn't option the car with the parking assist feature? Would like to fill out the toggle bank if possible...

You cannot buy individual switches. Check Realoem fit your car.

The fully equipped toggle bank is easy enough to buy. I would also like to install the fully equipped little bank but I'm not sure how to take out the present bank and how to install the new one. Does any one know how to remove the toggle bank and does anyone know if the car control system will recognize that the "wrong" type of toggle bank is installed give an error?

Any update on this?

The car I'm getting is missing the switches on the end. I'd like to get a new bank full of switches so I can use the ones on the ends for oil slick and smoke screen.

Thanks!

Best,
Gene

hmmm....Looking at the back of this thing I'm not very hopeful on a retrofit. I was hoping for standard switches that I could run whatever wires to it I wanted.

Anyone ever crack one of these open?

Here's the link to this on ECSTuning: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/61319328290/

I'm guessing these toggles are soldered to a PCB directly. To access the switch would require programming to interface the CANBUS.

Found this online on reverse engineering the MINI CANBUS: http://bobodyne.com/web-docs/robots/...N/MINI_CAN.pdf

Now if you opened up the switch bank, you may be able to isolate a switch, or tie in to it. But may need diodes to prevent feedback into the CANBUS and damaging the computer. Again, this is all my opinion. YMMV.

Hmm... doesn't seem worth the effort. I saw there's one on eBay. I may get it and rip it open and see if I can install some simple toggle switches and run the wires out the back.

Thank you!

You may be able to isolate the existing toggles. But it may require a good bit of hacking. The ones are eBay are only $100, so hacking in to that seems less nausea inducing than hacking in to ECS's for $200+.

Correct, they’re only Canbus switches.
You might get get an error, as there will be nothing
to activate.

Yes, they are programmed to the car. You would have to add those options then have the dealer flash it to work based on what I have seen. Unlike the Gen 2 MINIs where you could add the toggle and then flash to work. Most of the new stuff is built in. You could install it and then put sticker on it like the gen 1 MINIs.

Bumping this old thread- did anyone try hacking into the switches on this panel?

I'd like to get a panel that includes the leftmost switch, and turn that into an exhaust cutout switch. Concerns though-

-how hard is it to get that panel out? I found these instructions:

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...sor/1VnY04pWlC

Do I really need to pull out the stereo unit? I'm assuming I could leave it plugged in to avoid possible need for dealer reprogramming they say would be needed for my pre-11/2014 car.

-but will the car need programming, just because it's a different switch? Or just the park distance feature wouldn't work- which of course it wouldn't, I'm not hooking up the rest of those parts.

-I realize this is a canbus switch, so I'm not going to be able to just wire into it. But if I can physically chop into the parts, and get another switch to fit in behind that's activated by this one, that'd do. If I start cutting up that part of the board though, will I brick the whole thing?

Probably nobody knows this last one, but I'm willing to give it a try if anyone has advice on the other items.

Thanks for any help!

You dont need to remove the headunit, just the screen (if its the 6.5 or 8.8). If its the standard radio then I guess its all-in-one and you will have to remove the whole thing.

I was bothered by the missing toggle myself, but the hassle outweighed my OCD.
