Wanted to add a wing to the F56 S. I found a UK vendor MW UK who sold the RSIC6 spoiler, placed the order and got it in a week. I was surprised how quickly it arrived with the current COVID impact. I wanted it to come in piano black to match the car and did not want to pay an arm and leg.
The install is pretty straight forward requires you to drill four holes in the hatch which made me a little scared I will not lie. Done this on many other cars so I'm no stranger to drilling into new cars ROFL! The kit comes with four rivet nuts and all the hardware required to mount. You will need to source the tool.
The finish was very nice, very shinny no scuff marks or scratches matched the black on the car. Now on my S I have the OEM little lip that extends this was some what of an issue. The RSIC6 site does mention that you may need a cover to replace the current one but when I asked the folks at MWUK they said it was not required. That I will say is debatable. The spoiler ends up sitting on top of the spoiler, it does not interfere with the install but does touch it. I added a tiny piece of insulation, semi hard foam between the two surfaces to keep them from rubbing.
I'm on the fence if I like it or not right now. I think it needs the cover to separate the body of the car from the wing but a couple of my buddies that have seen it like it. What is important to note if you are going to do this is that you may need the cover if you want greater definition of the lines.
Looks good! Is there no adjustment of the spoiler to get it to sit just a little bit higher and not be in contact?
Nope there is no adjustment, but RSIC6 does sell a kit that you can add that lets you change the angle of attack on the spoiler but will not raise leading edge.
Very nice! I had the same spoiler, just took it off yesterday in fact. I decided it was a bit flashy for my tastes, though I do still love the looks of it! A few thoughts...
Yeah you should get the non-S spoiler. The shape flows perfectly with the RSIC6. I'm sure a used one on eBay would be a good use of funds.
I added some 3m teflon anti-friction tape to the places that the spolier touches stock parts. The edges of the hatch glass, the black plastic parts on either side of the glass, and the black triangle things at corners of stock spoiler. I think RSIC6 provides foam tape for the glass, but I think my solution is probably better.
The way the spoiler wing part attaches to the side risers is really sloppy IMO. They basically have you just screw it in with sheetmetal screws, and nothing really lines up right. I drilled out their misaligned holes, and put in J-nuts that can be positioned to the exact right spot. And added plastic shims from the hardware store to take up the empty space, so you can actually tighten down the screws without pulling everything out of its place. Got several lenghts of screws and experimented to find exactly which would fit without going too deep, and bulging the top of the spoiler. They really could have done a much better job with all this.
After all that, I had a very nice spoiler! Enjoy yours =)
