Pics of My Custom JCW Seats

I'm not telling how, but I was able to obtain a pair of the John Cooper Works sport seats (red/black) and had them installed in my new '04 JCW MCS. Not content simply to have these seats, I took them to my upholsterer and had them enhanced with a red edge binding, and had the red leather inset on the seat perforated. The inside of the oval trim piece on the door panels is was also replaced with the perforated red leather. The rear seats are being reupholstered to match the look of the fronts with the red leather inset panels and red edge binding on the outside of the seat and head rests. The aftermarket Cooper S floor and trunk mats were also enhanced with red edge binding. Here are some pics. I'll post more when the car is done. (Note: the lighting may make the Chili Red leather appear slightly on the orange side, but picture it as the Chili Red it really is.)

Other extras: Orciari body kit; full HSport suspension, Koni "yellows," BBS RGR wheels (chromed); Yoko Parada Spec 2 tires; Power Slot rotors w/EBC pads; full custom audio (Alpine 9831 head unit; MB Quart speakers, JL Audio 5 ch amp and subwoofer enclosure).

Let me know what you think.

Here's a few more pics. Couldn't post more since I'm limited to 3 per post.

Does it have an air bag or did you have to give that up? Very nice custom look.

No air bags in the JCW seats. This is why they are not available in the U.S. My understanding is that BMW doesn't want to risk its excellent crash test rating with the elimination of the side air bag in the factory supplied sport seats. I contacted John Cooper Works in England to try and obtain the seats but was told that there are tight restrictions on any attempt to export them to the U.S. I had to find another source, which is no longer available.

Those seats look comfy and well padded. Nice look.

How much are JCW seats? hypothetically speaking.

Very well done JCW look to your MCS there.
Thanks for the pictures

Some answers: The JCW seats are actually made by Sparco in Italy for BMW. They are essentially the same as the Milano II sold by Sparco for $799 each in cloth and $1299 each in leather. Mine are leather, plus I bought several extra hides to do the door panels, soon to be done rear seat, and Moss Mini center console with cell phone holder (to be recovered in charcoal leather with same red edge binding). Don't ask how much for all. I'm afraid to add it all up, and the extra hides are yet to arrive from Italy.

Some additional pics are attached. In several weeks, I'll be posting an album of the entire car completed on Kodak's ofoto website. I'll update this thread with a link to my album.

When I last called JCW, they were a little less than the Sparco Milanos. How do they feel. I am going to be getting these in January for my new '05 MCS.

Slightly off topic, but I have seen this car at one of our local SCMM runs and the Oricari body kit is outstanding! I was not a fan of that kit from just pictures, but in a dark color like this on an all black car it is very nice.

Mross04, the seats look great, with all the nice custom work, are you going to show the car?

Just had to respond with a "WELL DONE". I'm really impressed with what you have done. The interior looks very well thought out, and professionally done.

Ditto with the exterior mod's.

Thanks for the photo's!!!

I know there are fans for tinting the windows. I'm actually undecided on this, but I'll live with it as is for awhile and decide in the near future whether or not to do a tint (on the lighter side, if it's done).

The seats are comfortable with great lateral support and lumbar support. Remember, though, these are really racing seats. That means NO WIDE BUTTS or they're going to have seam marks on both cheeks! Also, the seats are limited in their ability to fold forward to allow access to the rear seat, but this is not something that will happen often (if at all) in my car. For me, the look, feel, and function of the seat in daily use and occasional track use outweighs the small tradeoffs.

I was hoping to show the car this weekend at the British Car Show held at Ventura Harbor, but the leather for the back seat just arrived. However, I WILL be taking the car on Sunday to the SCMM outing to Mt. Wilson for all of you SCMM members.

I've also signed up to take the car to Willow Springs Raceway next month with the club to see what the car will do on the track. I've got less that 1,000 miles on the car, so I've got to do some driving to get out of the break-in period.

In the future, I'll probably add a pulley and chip, but I wanted to establish a performance level first so I have a basis for comparison in seeing what those mods actually do for the car. Stay tuned.

Since my last post, the car went back to the upholster to complete the interior. The back seats were done in red and black leather to match the JCW sport seats. Schroth harnesses were added, as was a center console recovered in black leather with red edge binding. My wallet is much lighter, but I think it was worth it. Let me know what you think.

mross04, who did the upholstery on your MCS? They did a great job! Are they local?

Hey,
Great looking MINI, like the seats and the matching floor mats. The BBS wheels really make the car stand out.
