Drivers side mirror rattles when shutting door!

I've noticed lately that whenever I shut my drivers side door the mirror rattles every time, the mirror seems firm and not loose. I found out that the chrome cover is the culprit that's causing the rattle, question is how do you stop it from excessive play between the clips that hold the cover on? You can see the 5 tabs that go into the tab holes in the mirror assembly, which when seated inside giving excessive play causing the rattle. I'm sure someone has a nifty fix for it.

Thank you in advance!

Regards,
Systemlord.

I've noticed that both my driver's mirror and the driver's mirror on my mom's Clubman also rattle when driving over rough roads. Dunno what's causing this except maybe the mirror cover like in your case, cause the entire assembly is tight to the car, and so is the glass inside the housing.

I'd pull the cap and try some felt pads on the 'hooks' where the clips attach.

That's a pretty good idea, but where would someone buy felt pads locally?

What I would do if I was in your situation is to use some masking tape, tape over the clips maybe twice or trice (so it's a little extra thick), then put it back in. It should be snug and the texture of the masking tape should help it grip.

I ended up using double sided foam tape (1/8" thick) that I already had so I might as well use it. It helped out a lot and the chrome cover fits snug and perfect now!

Ha! Mine has starting rattling too since it's gotten warmer.. I'll have to try the double sided sticky tape! Cheaper than buying new covers!
