Black Headlamp Housing

Does anyone know if you can get the black headlamp housing as an aftermarket product? My dealer said that it has to be built that way, you can't just order it and have it installed.

Would I have need the Xenon lights and white turn signals?

If you have xenons then they are swappable (most likely, not sure how it would work if you have adaptive and the black ones are not adaptive). Color of turn signals does not matter.

The housings are about $600 or more for each side, so most people just Joey Mod them instead of buying new headlights.

There might be an off-brand that makes black headlight housings, but they won't be nearly as nice as the OEM stuff.

Thanks Yetti. I think I will just paint them black - I think I saw a DYI around here somewhere.

If anyone has any links to aftermarket black headlamp housings, please feel free to post them here!

The Xenon housings are not swappable. This is a factory option. The only choices are replacing the light units ot the Joey mod.

I contacted my MINI dealer and asked how much it would cost for parts and labor to swap out my lights for the black ones and the quoted me $1,400 . I figured it would be pricey, but wow - $1,400?? What do you guys think -too high or about right?

They also quoted me $500 for a set of stripes (bonnet, boot, side) in black. They are a special design, so I figured it would be high as well.

$1400 is about right because Sewell part sell the xenons for $767.09 each side. I think this is what you are looking for, part numbers: 63129808265, 63129808266.

I'm so happy I ordered my car with the black xenons and adaptive lighting.

I'm confused. I thought, according to the MINI Configurator, you couldn't get Adaptive Headlights for the black headlight housings? Hmm...I wonder how hard it would be to retrofit the adaptive portion if I already have the bi-xenon headlights.

I thought the same or I would have ordered. Could not though.

Actually, you can have both adaptive and black housing xenons, since 2012

Must have been the white turns or the headlight washer that disallowed then

Mine is the R56. I remember now, it was the cold weather package that disallowed it. Had to be the washers.

Too bad. I wish I had the option. Only $100 more for adaptive headlights. A lot better than trying to retrofit into a car that already has bi-xenon. Probably going to cost me around $500.

I was wrong, it's the black housing that makes it unavailable on the R56.

I'm still curious when they changed it for the Countryman. Clearly they have them available but if I still go on to MINI cinfigurator, it still says adapative lighting is not available with black housings but it will still let you select the option. I really want to retrofit these though. I knwo at one point, BMW offered a retrofit on the E46s, so I wonder if they will do the same for the countryman owners who were unlucky in being able to get them because they wanted the black housings.
