Interior/Exterior Carbon Fiber????
Carbon Fiber????
I want to start adding carbon fiber parts to my 2012 R56s and was wondering if anyone knew of some good deals. My requirements are real carbon fiber, high quality, and cheap as possible (I'm on a college students budget). I know quality and low cost are opposites but still want the best bang for my buck. I found CARBONMINI.COM and I might start buying from there but before I do does anyone have suggestions? I am wanting the following:
- headlight rings with washer
- taillight rings
- emblems
- gas cap
- gas trim
- door handles
- grill trim
- mirror caps
- antenna and base
Thanks

Do you want carbon fiber replacements or overlay? That will factor in to the price as well. I lucked up and scored the MINI carbon fiber boot handle on eBay for $100. If you don't mind used parts, you can check there...sometimes you get lucky. CARBONMINI, from what I've read, is a great company. You can also check out Way Motor Works, Out Motoring and M7 (if you want an intake scoop and don't mind drilling a hole).
Good luck
Good luck
I think overlays just because its like half the price. And another question, if I get the overlays, do I have to take any extra precautions like no car washes or anything because some of the parts from CARBONMINI are glued on and some have special 3M car adhesive.
Like I said on the earlier post, I have CarbonMINI's CF gas cap new. If you want to save some money to put towards your other CF purchases let me know.
I have several of CARBONMINI's CF products and I have been very pleased with all of them. Send Erin an e-mail and tell her that I (Tackleberry aka James) referred you and what you would like to order. She may give you a discount on your first order.

I am trying to understand the motivation for the CF. I do understand that CF gives you strength with less weight so on an application where you can save weight that’s logical, but in the application where you are doing an CF overlay, like on a fuel cap, mirror, or other items that were listed, why not do a CF vinyl wrap. It costs much less and, for the most part, you have the same result?
The Motivation with the overlays is that they come as a precision fit. All you have to do is take off the other side of the special 3M auto take and attach it. It requires much less work than the vinyl and it lasts much longer than the vinyl too. It is also a lot cheaper than replacement parts. I had the hood scoop and rear trunk handle CF replacement parts. So I wanted to add more of that same look (glossy finish) to the rest of my car and overlays are the way to go. Also CARBONMIN was an awesome company to work with. My products came super fast and with easy to follow instructions.
Yeah, I looked at them and emailed them. I got an email back asking what model my mini was and I responded with the correct answer. Then I never got any response. I emailed them again with no response so I moved on.
Stuff looks good. Do these blend in well as overlays...or do they obviously look like overlays.
Looking for the OEM look if that makes sense.
I ask because I've seen some pretty nasty looking overlays.

I guess you can apply the word overlay a couple ways.
Some parts are very thin pieces of carbon, molded to be attached to the surface of a part. I use to do some of these but really don't like this method since if they're not applied just right it can actually look a bit cheap.
What I prefer, as shown in the pictures, is to overlay the OEM part with carbon. Meaning the carbon is permanently attached to the plastic part, so it's hard to tell if it's full carbon or carbon over plastic.
