Roof Rack Cargo box and bikes

I am looking for a roof rack for my R50 Mini Cooper that can hold a cargo storage box and bikes. I have searched and could not find any that hold the cargo box and bikes.

Does anyone have one? If, yes what is the brand name and where did you get it?

Are you able to open the sunroof?

Does it require drilling holes? (I would like to get a roof rack that does not require drilling holes if possible).

Please let me know thanks.

Yakima rack system is what I got. No drilling, just clamps on. I bought their Rocketbox 15s, it fits prefect on the roof. They also have stuff for bikes too. Yakima is a great brand. And yes it works with sunroof.

Wow thanks, for letting me know. That a good setup you got in your picture.

Can you able to put a bike and the storage box together on the roof rack together?

U might be able to fit one on there. U would have to move the box off center. But I belive it would work. I LOVE my Yakima Rocketbox 15s.. It worked great for my 12day/4150 mile roadtrip I took, & good for weekend trips. I will try to find a pic from the front. But the box fits perfectly on the roof. Its the only one I would get.

Thanks, that helps with the pictures you showed me. I will look into the Yakima and the Rocketbox 15s and find out from the company if it will carry the box and bikes.

Thanks again for your time.

Well yakima will say the rocketbox wont fit, they don't know that the MINI's have the little rain gutter where the clips can clip on. but it works great, had NO problems at all. My mom has the same set up.

I would look at minicarparts.net they sell the whole rack setup, just remeber to get locks too. Than for the rocketbox just search online for best price. my whole setup cost about $650-700. Its alot but yakima has a great warrenty. You will be very happy with it.

Let me know if you have any more question, now our down the road.

Happy motoring

I use Yakima as well. I have a larger rocketbox but have since moved to this set up. You can attach bike racks to the cross bars on the basket

Wow, that a good stuff of storage you have on top of your Mini. I like the idea of doing that, but I would prefer to have a box inside for storage to keep it dry and safe for secure.

In the picture is my load warrior. I have a rocketbox as well. I like the basket a little more as it is a little more versatile. In that picture I believe I could have still gotten a bike up there if I buy a kayak stacker

I have a Thule Roof Rack (no drilling, easily removable) and I can fit a large cargo/luggage box and a bike on top with NO PROBLEM. See pic below. THis is the extra large cargo box and a fork mount bike carrier. I drove this to Lake Placid this summer (750 miles away) and back. As you can see, there is tons of room and the cargo box is HUGE!!

That good to know. Do you have a picture of your bike with the cargo box? It is possible to fit two bikes with the cargo box?

What model cargo box you have?

Also, did you have to remove the antenna?

I don't have any pictures of the bike and cargo box, but if you look at the first pic I posted, it shows the cargo box and the tray for the bike. It fit easily side by side.

The cargo box is a Sears model, but it's just like the large Thule box. It must be made by the same company because it's identical. Stuff will stay perfectly dry in there and it locks shut, so your stuff is safe.

I did not have to remove the antenna. The rear of the cargo box touches the antenna but it's flexible. You can see that in the first pic too. Sorry the picture isn't clearer. My daughter took some more pics, but has since lost her camera. I scrounged up the only ones I had for this post.

Thanks, I looked it up Thule cargo box. It looks like you have the Thule Sears Cargo box model #668ES?

Is that correct? Do you know the measurements?

Don't know the model #. It says X-Treme X-Cargo on the side of it.
It's approximately 6 feet long by 32 inches wide.

Can anyone take some close ups of the rack? I too am trying to decide which route to go. I wish we had a more low profile option without drilling but I can't find.

What is the load rating for those Thule or Yakima racks? I'd be worried about exceeding the limit of a clip on...

I just brought a Thule 1200 box and now need to get a roof bars. I was wondering would a 53" length bars be okay and has anyone use a 53" length on their Mini? Any problem getting in and out of the car while the bar is in the way?

Let me know.

Hey Scott. The crossbars shown in my pics above are 47" long. So, you'd be looking at another 3" per side. Personally, I think that would be fine. If you look at where the crossbars are placed on the roof, they're really not even in the area where you stand up when you get out of the car. Anyway, that's just my personal opinion.

Thanks, I think I will get the 53" bar. Hope I won't bang my head.
