Interior/Exterior Retrofit auto dim mirrors?
Retrofit auto dim mirrors?
I wonder if it's possible to retrofit the 2011 outside autodim mirrors? Hard to believe that my old 2001 Audi had them and a newer (2010 in my case) Mini didn't. Now that the 2011 Minis do, has anyone seen what's involved with installing them?
I've got to admit that's really the one thing that's bad about the my Mini. The interior mirror dims away, but you get blinded at a stoplight by the side views...

Not that this answers the question, but try setting the mirrors correctly. If you do - you shouldn't see behind you and the blinding is only temporary at stop lights when the car cross the threshold out of blind spot...

This is an amazing technique. I started driving this way 15 years ago, took a while to adjust to - but wow, what a difference it makes.

YES! Here is the part numbers for the kit and the prerequisite options. Looks like you need the auto dimming interior mirror (that I think you have).

You may want to talk to your dealer about it.
Now that I am looking at it closer, that is just the harness...So the harness is only $15 from parts.com.
So here are the mirror housings from the R56 LCI model (2011):

I am really not sure if you need to order the glass or not. The Glass section doesn't specify any options.
The mirrors are about $175 each. Doesn't look like you need any programming. But there are instructions specified for the retrofit your dealer can print out for you.

. If the traffic light is red, I powerfold the mirrors while the light is red (don't want my wife to be miserable).
I have a 2011 and to get the self dimming exterior mirrors , first you must order power fold mirrors (500) then at the self dimming feature of (250).
Does the retrofit mention in this thread for any exterior mirror whether powerfold or not.
I have the self dimming interior rear view but would like to retro fit my standard, non heater, non power fold mirrors. to self dimming.
thks

Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror - Retrofit R56
I have a 2007 manual Cooper S which I bought used. It had most of the bells and whistles but did not have auto dimming rear view mirror. So, I bought the part from ebay and replaced the current mirror with the auto dim one. Not sure if it's working but looks like it does. The issue however is that, after I attached the auto dim mirror, I can no longer use the keyless entry feature. Anyone has any ideas on how to fix this? I hope its an easy fix....

Edit: I have installed MINI's retrofit kit wiring, and have added $431 to the VO. (As far as I can tell, that's the code for the auto dim interior mirror option.)

have you considered taking it to a Mini dealer and have him do one of the system checks to have the mirror coded with the car. Its probably like when you get a new easy access key you have to have the dealer run the code check and sync on it.
I had not. I've read so many stories of people being charged $$$$ for coding that I wanted to avoid dealer involvement completely. I guess I can't hurt to make a phone call though!
