Uncomfortable Driver's Seat

I know this isn't a factory defect, but is anyone else dealing with a very uncomfortable driver's seat? My wife is going to kill me. I purchased this car for long drives and my Element was just not comfortable over an hour or two. But that driver's seat is a throne of pillows compared to the torture chamber of the leatherette seat in my CM S. I cannot seem to get any position worked out where I don't have to constantly squirm to readjust. My entire back is killing me after 90 minutes in stop and go traffic today.

Are there any potential after-market products that would help? Is anyone else having this problem? I know that everyone is different and for some the seat will be comfortable, but the seat just seems to be placed weirdly. To get to the pedals correctly, I need to be slightly twisted so the left side pad is digging into the my back under my shoulder blade constantly. The back rest of the seat has the area pressing on my back in the wrong area...above the lumbar, but then not having enough support in my upper back.

Anyway, just seeing if anyone has any suggestions or feedback. I love everything else about this car. It's wonderful, but I'm dreading my first long trip in it.

Call you salesperson to find out who they use for seat repair. Get in touch with them.

I got the leather/cloth option and really like the comfort of the seats. Just went on a 3 hr each way trip to the coast and was probably the most comfortable than in any
previous car or truck I have driven there and I am older now with a much worse back and neck.

If you sit in another CM with leatherette @ the dealership, does that seat feel the same? Does your seat feel like it did if you had had the opp to testdrive a car with leatherette? Perhaps you just got badly built seat somehow?

I have leatherette on the way, too, so I'm hoping your situation isn't one that I'll be facing! I thought the seats were ok, but how much do you really feel in a 20 minute or so test drive?

I don't know. Quite honestly, I didn't sit in the dealership in a seat long enough, and should have. But don't worry. For me, the seats are getting better. I had to find a good position, which took a while. Seat all the way in the lowest position which angles the seat bottom so its front provides more support for your legs. Still wish there was lumbar in the very lowest back area instead of an empty space, but I did a huge amount of driving in the past two days (to Northern Jersey, then to Long Island, then from Long Island to Red Bank, back to Baltimore), and it was okay. Was it uncomfortable at all? Sometimes. But so is my Element, and most likely any vehicle.

I feel your pain. Not enough lower back and thigh support for me.

An expensive solution, I imported an JCW optional Recaro sportster from England and replaced my driver's seat. Wiring harness is plug and play, heaters and side airbags are functional. My best mod to date, very happy.

I just got my CM and have the same problem. I did site wide search for "lumbar" and stumbled upon a thread about the seats (in Coopers.) The sports seats were exactly the same as the more expensive leather seats with the lumbar support, just missing the support, $100 part and an hour time, and problem solved. It seems like the CM seats are the same way, but no one has done it yet. I need to figure out if it'll void the warranty, then I'm going to do it.

I love lumbar support in general so these seats are a bit uncomfortable to me. My wife thinks they are just fine, but she isnt a fan of lumbar support. lol. I was planning on buy one of those lumbar pillows for long drives. Cheapest option.

I dont think adding a lumbar support is going to void the warranty. Possibly just the seat warranty if there is such thing. The issue would have to be directly caused by the lumbar support installation. This is what my service guy told me on an automatic start that I wanted to get installed. So if your transmission fails, you'll be fine. Unless somehow the lumbar support caused it to fail.

Only time will tell with me. The sport seats are the only seats that work for me. I need to turn lumbar off. Delivery of our CM s/b in two weeks. I have sat in both the base seats and sport although never driven a CM with sport seats. We'll see or it off tho the auto upholstery place for me.

I looked into adding lumbar support to my non sport seats and it's just too expensive. For some reason the parts to add lumbar support are over $200 (dealer quote) per seat in the countryman. I am looking at the wet okloe seat covers that for $80 you can add lumbar support.

I got the sport seats with leatherette (just got my car yesterday!!!) and on the drive home, I felt it digging into my lower/middle back too... I was SO glad I still had side airbag compatible sheepskins from the previous car I could throw on it. That seemed to help a lot. It's still not as "glove like" in the upper back as I would like it, but it is an improvement in comfort.
