I haven't purchased from them, I'd definitely be interested in these though, if that's really the price.

We need some pictures here to help us.

A word of concern. Although there is considerable interest in these cowl scoops near the windsheild, so far no conclusive studies have been done to indicate that any of the designs plays a significant "functional role" in helping to divert air towards the engine area and enhance air intake in a meaningful (added HP) way.

Therefore it is up to each manufactorer of these products to demonstrate that there is more than an appearance benefit for these cowl scoops. So please do show us the evidence when you have it.

Personally I like the way the scoops look but a functional benefit would be very nice thing indeed.
Where's the beef?

Yeah minihune, I agree, I've been trying to do some research on these and I can't find anyone that has any real functional evidence as far as engine temp cooling, etc...

I like the way they look forsure, one thing I was wondering about them was... would they be a problem in the rain I wonder?

Rain should not be a problem because the design of the scoops includes a grille at the opening slit so water cannot easily flow into the scoop but it will not stop a wave of water. Under the scoops, there is no close intake at risk so again you should be safe.

Here is something to think about. If the scoop helps air into that cowl area then where is that air exiting? Without flow through ventilation the air isn't going anywhere soon.

Try this. Drive your MINI at 40. Get your passenger to open his window and get a shoebox without the cover and hold it out a little so the open end is facing the wind. How is the airflow? Goes in just fine then what? You need to look at the positive or negative pressure in that cowl area when the MINI is moving and see how the scoop affects pressure.
That is a really crude experiment- someone creative please come up with something better. I've been cleaning up all day and I'm too tired :???:

Hi folks, I have been working quietly on my own hood scoops. They would be cheapo AND effecticve, with over 3 times the ocari's open area. Minihune, teh area is a high pressure zone with pretty clean airflow over the grills. I have done tests with yarn on little wire stands taped all over my hood, and teh flow does not stall or become negative thee. It is especially clean an inch above the surface, and my scoops are about an inch and three quarters tall. Soon I will have time to vac-u-form a pair and do some butt-dyno testing, but I can assure you they will help. Air FLOW is different from air PRESSURE. If the shoebox fils with air and then stops, it will have a higher pressure than if it just filled and flowed. It is a very GOOD thing thee is no air exit in teh vent area: it will yield higher boost. BTW: Your cabin air comes from that well. If you put in an airbox intake, you had beter seal ALL the little openings teh sheet metal box wals leave open, INCLUDING the one huge one under the lower plastic stock air box (has ANYONE else noticed that?), or you will be sucking engine fumes. Use dense sheet foam under the box, and duct tape elsewhere. Do teh sealing job at night and use a light to find the oenings since they are many and sneaky! There are about 7 left open with the Alta kit I use. You will get far cooler air to intake, and less fumes to breathe. Hood scoops will help the fumes issue, at the cost of intake pressure.
