Interior/Exterior Low Tire Air Pressure light after installing aftermarket wheels
Low Tire Air Pressure light after installing aftermarket wheels
What's up gang?
Even though I'm pretty sure the issue is due to the aftermarket wheels not having the factory air pressure sensor, i just wanted to ask.
I just got a set of after market wheels installed on my Cooper S and when i drove off the "Low tire air pressure" light came on.
I got a new set of tires on the new wheels; therefore, i was not able to have teh shop swap the valves which is where i'm assuming the sensor is. Is there a work around for this? maybe turning off the feature that checks for the tire's air pressure?
What do you guys think is the best work around. I'd like to know how everyone that has gotten rims on their mini have gone about this
Thank you,
Will

To the best of *my* knowledge there is no way to disable the TPMS sensor.
The workaround that most people have is install some aftermarket TMPS in the wheels or just learn to ignore the warning light (electrical tape perhaps?)

Beru is the manufacturer of the OEM BMW & MINI TPMS Sensors. When I replaced my wheels my dealer wanted $95.00/ea. I ordered them from Beru for $175.00 complete set of 4 including shipping. I then went back to Discount Tire and they installed them. The sensors are on the base of the valve stems. Good luck.
Yes they can be moved. Be aware that the 2010 Mini's have a different sensor, and they cost about $100 each... Yes I bought 4 to go with the the snow tire and wheels I got from Tirerack.
i just had my sensors switched from my s-lites to my "new to me" JCW R105s.
The garage did it without any problems.

There are different sensors in gen 1 versus gen 2 cars. Gen 1 sensors are in the valve stem whereas Gen 2 sensors are in the wheel itself as a solid unit. They can be removed and installed in most aftermarket wheels in both instances. Gen 2 sensors can not be put into Gen 1 wheels though as there
is no "cut-out" in the wheel to accommodate the sensor. Just thought I'd offer this fact up for anyone who was wondering. Good Luck.
