Speedometer MPH vs KM/H

Hello,

I have a mini cooper 2010 that I want to bring back to Eurpoe this summer to register it in France.

It seems that the car is compliant with European standard, except the speedometer which is in MPH only.

Does anyone know if I can have the speedometer changed in France with one in KM/H ? Will it operate properly ?

Thanks

The digital display on the tach will display MPH and KPM. Ar you wanting the large center speedometer changed out? Your manual will tell you haw to change the digital display. You can do it from the turn signal or from the menu on the radio. It's really easy.

On my Cooper, the speedometer is not digital. It is an indicator with a needle, and the range is permanently marked.

Therefore, I have to change it, but will a european one, in KM/H, operate properly ?

this is the tachometer where it says +44 and the time can be set to show your speed by using the turn signal control and with the on board computer you can adjust to either miles or kilometers. Refer to your owners manual on how to do this, there's a lot in there on how to set up your car. I didn't know I could program my doors to unlock together with one push of the button instead of the just the drivers side and how to turn on the daytime driving lights........

There should be no problem in changing out the speedometer plate that shows the speed. The computer does all the work with digital signals and as others have said it has teh ability to be changed to metric. All that really probably needs to be replaced is the actual dial face.

No reason to change out the speedometer face plate just adjust with the computer to kilometers and set up the Tachometer to have the speed in it. Unless you have no thought of taking it back to the states with you ever and planned on staying in Europe. I live in Europe and find it easier to just leave it alone due to moving back to the states.

Let me investigate this solution with the French administration.

Hi Jimbou,
I'm french too but from Quebec.

I already ask MINI/BMW to change it froms MPH to KM/H (my car is an american car that I bought and bring to Quebec)

The complete upgrade to Km/h is 2000$ (canadien) so something like 1600euros I think...

Hello sigop329,

Thank you for this information, it helps very much.

I am quite impressed by the price of the operation.

Could you send me, by personnel message, the address of a BMW/MINI dealer in Quebec ? I am thinking about having a speedometer in KM/H shipped to me, and changed here in the US by a local mechanic. It would certainely be cheaper.

Thank you

Sigop329 did they say they had to change anything other than the face plate out?

Kilometer speedometer

I was just looking into this today at the dealer in Germany. I have a R53 with the Navi so that tech and speedmeter are above the steering wheel. Both of them as a unit is almost 300€,

The dealer of course won't really cooperate. Whether one can simply plug and play, don't know yet. But should work.
