Special black paint for aero kit?

So ive had my aero kit front bumper for my R53 painted twice by the dealer. Never go to prestiege Mini in NJ for a paint job ever. First time the body color paint was horrible, i had it re-painted under warrenty and it came out worse then before, they didnt even sand it before painting.

I brought my front bumper and new side skirts somewhere else now. I tried explaining the special textured black paint that mini uses to try to match the black plastic trim. He understood what i ment, but cant find a good match. He is trying to get it perfect for me. He even called BMW and they had no idea what he was talking about.

So i thought id stop in at Presteige mini to see if they could help me. Knowing what i was getting myself into, i endded up explaining the whole painting procedure that they should obviously know. No help. The guy who painted my bumper quit by the way. So it was a new guy.

Just to make sure i wasnt insane (like Presteige made me seem, even though im there more and know more then their employees) i looked on outmotoring and they even tell you when you buy any aero parts:

"Please note the way this part is designed, may require a two part paint process to emulate the continuation of the black plastic fender trim as it wraps around the front lower section of the bumper. MINI specs a special paint that matches the finish and texture so it looks right, but you can also paint all the trim and the bumper body color instead. "

Sorry about the long post. So im wondering if anyone else has had this problem and have you found the paint they use? Id be very thankfull!!! Me and my body shop are trying together to find this paint or their strategy of painting.

BTW i think ive seen most if not all the threads about this, and some say go to motoringfile, but the link is down. And no one decided to mention any paintcodes in the threads.

Don't these MINI techs bother to read their own retrofit installation instructions ? It's just that I see a post on this exact topic here about every 4-5 months.....

PAGE 4/5 of THEIR instructions clearly provide the MINI paint codes for this process. Print it out and give it to them. After your paint job it will probably just end up in the circular file but at least you will be all set.

Good luck. And make sure whom ever mixes the paint, that a flex agent ( as suggested ) is added as well.

I just had the JCW aero kit installed and painted at Prestige. I am crazy about the work done to my car. It must be done perfectly and they know that there. There are ZERO issues with the paint or the install of the aero kit.

Last year they also repainted the front right wheel arch when I had the factory aero kit on my car. Again no issues.

I am very surprised to hear you say they do bad work at Prestige. And no, I do not work there nor am I affiliated with them in any way.

I am in shock that you had good painting services provided to you. Mine were horrible everytime. You also seem to have a new mini tho and i dont think you have textured paint on that bumper, but still even the regular paint was bad on mine.

And thank you gray raven i just sent my painter that info. Hope everything goes right.

Good luck, maybe you have some MINI clubs in your area who can recommend a good auto paint shop.

I thought I read somewhere that the special textured black paint had been 'discontinued.' Have you determined this is not true?

Jeese dont see why they would continue selling parts which cannot be painted.....

Here is something to try though if that's the case...write up sounds like it's right in the ballpark.
