Does anyone with a MY 2004 MCS know if the rear fog light kit comes installed by the factory, or whether it still has to be done by the dealer??

My '04 did not have it. I put in the diodes from radio shack for 1.29. 3 amp, 50 ipv between no 1 and 4 wire. Tim

The current rear foglight kit applies to '04 models. I heard that it might be an actual factory option in December though.

The dealer (or you) can install the option, it consists soley of a toggle switch bank and a reprogramming of the car's computer. Everything else is already there. The dealer has to recode the computer regardless of who does the install.

 

the rear fog light is on all 04 model built after dec '03. i asked my dealer in sterling va and she said there is no official word on retrofit part yet. i told her news has been floating around the web regarding the retrofit available on previously built models. her word was "don't beleive what you see on the web." i guess that particular dealer has not gotten the official word from miniusa yet

 

the rear fog light is an option on all '04 built after dec '03. when i ordered mine two weeks ago, i was given the option list and behold the rear fog option was on the list. however i couldn't check off the option because my car would be delivered sometime this christmas. according to that dealership, she said there is no official word from miniusa that the retrofit kit would be available for existing minis. i said word floating on the web said to the contrary. her word was "don't believe what you read on the web."

The MA you spoke with at Sterling is dead wrong. I've already spoken with parts at MINI of Sterling, they know all about it and can do the job. Three weeks ago they still had the new switch banks in stock. Per Nicco at Service (who apparently just left the dealership) it's $175 for the switch this includes installation of the switchbank and the re-programming of the computer.

Go talk to Keith when you need help from an MA at Sterling, he knows what's going on...

Just picked my MCS up yesterday. The dealer said they were not able to install the rear fogs due to a software issue. They hoped it would be fixed soon..

 

Don't believe everything you hear at the Dealer!

Granted take what you hear on the internet with a grain of salt but I've found that a lot of times people on the internet have more of an idea than dealers do.

matt: how did you find out yours is a 49th week car. when did you order yours? according to miniusa.com, my car is readied for production this 14th of november. i don't have rear fog on my order form...
