Hood Underlining?

I've seen a lot of pictures of people with the lining on the underside of the bonnet taken off. Is there a benefit to doing this? Pros Cons?

Some strut tower braces cause the hood to rise in the back with the lining in. So if you take it out it sits flat again. One con of this is that you lose the lining that is there to help put out small fires under your hood.

A few other things the lining does:

a) absorbs noise from the engine bay - so you hear a lot less noise from the timing chain, valves, etc. inside or outside the car.

b) reduces the heat transfer from the engine to the bonnet - possibly impacting things like vinyl bonnet stripes, and certainly impacting how hot your wiper fluid gets in the lines (which can cause the fluid to seep out of the jets and stain the bonnet and stripes).

You can remove material from the back side of the blanket to thin it where it passes over the strut brace and solve the "lifted bonnet" issue - I've done that.

Most folks remove it for cosmetic reasons - Personally I like the look of the bay better with it in place, but diff'rent strokes...

I would guess that most of the pics you have seen showing no bonnet insulation are on the 2nd gen cars as they did not come with the insulation.

The lining also helps the life of the paint on the hood too.. 2cents.

I dont run the lining and the only real difference I notice is the heat. I have a Carbon Fiber bonnet and you can really smell it once its been running for a bit.
