Carbon fabric for dash

I came across this Audi thread and it looked like a pretty cool mod. It's a carbon fiber look fabric and I think the matter finish looks pretty good. It looks like it has some depth and isn't completely flat.

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=270943

I think it would be worth giving it a shot. Has anyone else done something like this?

Tha's really nice looking. I wonder how hard it would be to do the dash panels in the mini? That would look killer. I didn't see in that thread how they're attaching it. I assume some sort of adhesive, anybody have any more detailed install info?

the supplier stated that DIYer's have been using 3m adhesive spray.

Personally I don't care much for it. I do a lot of carbon work for people on bimmerforums.com and there are many threads devoted to Euro Dyne, some just to this material. What caught my eye was the play on the name, they called it 'Farbin Ciber'. But for a reasonable price it is a striking look.

I read all the bimmer threads (!) They use 3M Super 77 spray adhesive - a couple of coats to get it nice and sticky.
The contact is a guy called Jo. The bimmer forums don't seem to have rules about posting non-vendor contact information...haha.
I'm thinking dash board and doors. I like the "dry carbon" look. There are some photos showing the reverse side of the fabric--it's clearly not woven like CF, but the front/show texture sure looks pretty good in the photos.
The latest posting from the vendor says it comes in silver, black and charcoal.

It looks like the "CF" fabric that's in my Redline shift/brake boots...I have the silver done as a stripe in the boots and it looks pretty cool. I'd like to see someone try this - I like how it looks in the Audis.

I saw this in person and it looks really good...but it really doesnt "look" like CF. Just the crisscross pattern is the same. Looks good tho for something different...

May have to pick some of this stuff up for my dash and the circle surrounds on the door cards to add a little more life to my interior.

would this even wrap with the curvature of our dash? like the "U" part? if you know wat i mean..
cause this being fabric...even tho you use the adhesive..using a heat gun would be a no no on that fabric no?
but then again..like UKSUV said in his post about Luis(OP) of the other forums that it was stretchy..
hmmm ill go ahead and email them and see what's up..as i am really interested in this..

It wouldn't be any different than using suede, Alcantara, leather, vinyl, etc. I'm going to measure the things I want wrapped and see if 1yd is enough material. I'll be attempting the dash, with stitching, most likely. Unless I can manage to wrap it without needing to cut/stitch the fabric.

minjae, I'll grab the tape measure and post back soon. Working with suede and such isn't TOO hard but I'd try wrapping simpler pieces first before committing if you've never done it before. As for the "U" part, if it's stretchy enough you won't need to cut/stitch to do it. But, chances are you may need to stitch 2 pieces of fabric together in order for it to work right without creases.

i've already covered them with vinyl already..did a pretty good job..until they started coming off at the "u" parts.. from far away my dash looks nice..but from up close it's pretty ugly..im gonna be ripping it off soon and wanted to use the cf fabric material to cover it.
so i guess i have somewhat of an experience with it.. guess we'll see..
and i am at work right now with nothing to do..so i'll go ahead and measure it myself too!

hmm..i just did the math on it..very rough (estimate)
and each piece would need about 18" for a little more than enough..
and about 10" high with a little more to work with
so that's about 6 pieces to do the dash with a piece of 6"x36" left over

(oh and this is all if the sheet is a one yard x one yard (36"x36"))

I just got done measuring myself, although it's kinda rough because I couldn't find my fabric tape measure and had to use a regular tape measure lol. FWIW, fabric is usually purchased in 42-58" wide pieces by w/e length you need, priced by the yard though.

My estimates, leaving room to work with (note, I plan on stitching separate pieces together for the dash except for the airbag panel):

Left Vent/Right Vent: 8"x10" + 3"x13"
Driver's Panel: 2 6"x10" + 2 3"x13" (split evenly into 2 pieces for my purposes)
Speedo Panel: 20"x10" + 2"x30"
Airbag Panel: 14"x10"

ok..i finally got the fabric and covered my dash..i like

the material is a bit stretchy..but the adhesive spray is the one that helped make it work around the curves and wat not
(and sorry for the crappy pics..i dont have a nice camera..i only have my iphone )
