Hey,

I am especially fond of the 4 driving lights set-up. But, I am curious, my MCS comes in this month (I hope) and I am having the dealer install 2 sets of factory driving lights, and I wanted the dealer to evenly space them Horizontally across the bumper/grille area AND to stagger them Vertically where the two on the outside are lower and the two on the inside are higher, sort of in the same arc as the grille. But, I do not know how it is done with the factory kit, can you stagger vertically with the factory brackets, how can I instruct the dealer, and do you use the same wire harness from the factory for all 4 lights? I would really appreciate any help. Cheers.

Here's a link to a thread over on MINI2 about this.
Scroll down toward the bottom for a few pictures.

Thanks,

I have seen this thread on the MINI2 forums previously, but it does not give the details that I was looking for as far as installation -- many unanswered questions regarding the wiring of the 4 lamp system. The pics are good, but I was also interested in making the center 2 lamps sit in a higher position than the outer two lamps and was curious if this was possible with thte factory kits.

But, I do appreciate your input -- unfortunately, I do not seem to be getting much of a response from the MCO forum, must not have the juicy words in the subject line like FREE or maybe not enough explanation marks!!!!!!!

Thanks again.

Just talked to your local Mini dealer mechanics. I've got 4 factory driving lights, evenly spaced in one horizontal line. I'm sure they can stagger them if you give them a diagram of what you want. Pricey, $1400, but worth it. They are both wired with 2 switches. If you are handy, you can do it yourself as well.

Thanks for the prompt response. If they used two wiring harnesses and two switches, where did they install the second switch, right next to the other switch in the knee bolster under the steering wheel, or do you have the parcel shelf installed? From what I have seen of the installation parts for the OEM lamps kit, I think if I want the staggered lights that I will have to get custom brackets fabricated. Who knows, I don't, and that is why I am here constantly in search of the truth (answers). Do you have any pics of the install?

Ciao.

I'm not sure how you would stagger 4 headlamps, looking at the driving lights on mine, and the picture on MINI2. The brackets are mounted on the horizontal pieces of the grille but the hood instead. The brackets are pretty much sized to fit where they fit.

But you may come up with a way to do it... That's why is called a mod!

Just interested in keeping it as factory as possible for the future (if I keep it long enough and if i am ever able to part with it). Prefer full warranty coverage and OEM parts -- personal thing -- nothing against mods -- just isn't my thing anymore, I got burned out on all of the work involved -- it used to be my thing years ago when I had a customized 1980 CJ5 Jeep. Aaaaaah... the good old days.

So, with the 04 MCS, I would prefer not to do the custom brackets -- "mod" -- and if that means I end up with 4 straight horizontal lights, then so be it, I think it will still look very smart.

They did a good job installing two switches side by side on the knee bolster. I had to reinstall them seperately though, becuase I added an euro parcel shelf. Sorry, no pics. By the way, I have never used those lights for real, it's too bright and probably illegal to use them all at the same time.

Install them yourself! they are fairly easy to put in. Of course, if you want to incorporate them into the brights, you might have trouble.
