Stops

I would like to know if anyone has ever opened up a stop light, I want to paint it. I don't like the chrome. i'd like to paint it black.

I have. The chrome is easily removed with rubbing alcohol. on 02-04 it's black underneath, after that it's red. I used a combination of heat gun and dremel to remove the top cover.

I have done it as well, but chose to paint the chrome surround Electric Blue to match the rest of the car. It's not a difficult process (I used a Dremel with a cutoff wheel). Just take your time.

Ya, its easy. Resealing it was a little tough the first time I did it, but a liberal application of silicon does the trick!

I did it too. Used a dremel to open them, and then painted the chrome flat black, and tinted the red lens.

Yep...I also did it...search my posts for my pics. I just did a small hole with a dremel where it seals at the bottom of the light, then I gently used a screwdriver to pry around the edges after heating it with a hair dryer...it sounds like its snapping and breaking and making horrible noises, but its ok. I then sealed with liberal amounts of black silicon and its been perfect ever since.

Also since I have Chilli Red, and the 05-06 lights are red underneath I was even more excited when this was done...color matched and dechromed for free!

I used the screwdriver on the first two.

One cracked the lens in half, and the other messed up the black plastic on the lens. I think it's safe to say the dremel all the way around worked much better for me.

I did it a few years back, baked them and they pryed apart just have a good adhesive to seal it back up.

*note this summer (1.5 years later) I have begun to notice wear I tapped to mask off with blue painters tape seems to be attracting quite a bit of dust for some reason.

If you want I may have some time to photoshop yours...it should be pretty easy. Post up a pic and I'll try to have it done by tonight. For now, here is how mine look.

The left one was giving me a little bit of trouble. I could probably re-do it to make it perfect, but I figured this gives you a good idea.

I would do red since your roof is white.
