Cheap Racing Harness

So I want to install a removable racing harness in my 2008 S for autocross use. I know there's the Schroth Rallye 4 but, http://www.soloracer.com/minirallye4.html states it won't work with the R56. Is this one of the ones I can modify? I also don't want to spend $200 dollars. Is there a cheaper option? I don't mind if it stays in the car for the most part as long as I can use a normal seat belt every day.

Thanks!

I hope the Schroth Quick Fit for the R56 will be out soon. I emailed 2 months ago and they said it should be out in about 2 months since they were in final seat testing. Haven't heard any updates though.

I don't know of one that fits nearly as well as the Schroth is intended to and costs less. If you want something cheap, you could always get a CG-Lock.

Yeah, my inexpensive alternative was the CG Lock. It works great and keeps you in the seat pretty well, but if your going to be doing serious racing or auto-x, you will deff. want the scroth harness. Until then, the CG lock will work great.

KyleJ - Thanks for emailing them. Hopefully, they will have them out soon for us!

Also, the R53 version of the Schroth can be modified to fit the R56, but I'm not spending that much money for a product that needs to be dremmeled a bit before I can install it.

I have the R53 Schroth installed in my R56. Im very happy with it, and the piece of plastic that you have to trim off is solely decorative. It would take like 5 minutes to trim off the plastic.

Either way, Schroth makes a great harness!

I wonder if the snap in option would work where the eyelets for the child seats are?

We used the R53 harness in our R56... i cannot say enough good things about this harness. the plasic piece took me about 30 seconds to trim off and works like a charm. doesn't affect anything either. here is the thread to our pics and install

Spend the $200. It's cheap insurance.

exactly... you CAN buy a "cheap" one. But what I was putting IN the harness was worth spending the extra money for the "good" one. Thats why i dropped the cash on the Schroth for my wife's car. When the **** hits the fan i'd rather not think to myself.. "wow... wish i would have spent that extra hundred bucks now!"

very true spdu4ia...in the end, the more the quality the piece, the better safety when the time comes that you need it.

We are all about saving money here and there and will DIY something or make something outselves *cough* boost tubes *cough* to save where we can. BUT safety equip. is NOT one of those things.

Um... yeah wow... the title of this thread alone seemed like an oxymoron to me. I'm not sure that I'd want to buy a cheap racing harness, even if I found one.

Last thing I heard from HMS (days ago) is that they were making progress in releasing the Schroth R56 Quick Fit, but still no date yet.

Jumps on the bandwagon...

There is an old saying that goes somewhat like this...

Got a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet.

Of course inflation and cost of goods has gone up since then but the sentiment is still the same.
