Interior/Exterior Gauge overlays-help anyone done this?
ok so im in the process of doing it now but im taking a break (out of frustration) - this may sound silly and make me look stupid but how do you get the hazard button out of the black platic peice from the speedo?! i want to get that entirely off and out of the car. im sending it to Lyle for some cool stuff (pics when its all finished obviously). and i cant figure out how to get the black ring off, i got the clear plastic off over the speedo which was easy as can be...but that black peice looks tricky. i dont see any write ups anywhere for removing the tach either...any instructions?
thanks in advance.
thanks in advance.
ok i got the gauges done, i had to push the clips of the black peice in and use a "place holder" basically (credits cards that were old and such) to keep the tab open and worked my way around until all were done. hope this helps someone.
they look amazing. Lyle does fantastic work. pictures will be up either tomorrow or during the week, whenever i get a chance. im still trying to remove the othe chrome bits from the car to send to Lyle for my next project. haha
There's a good video on removing the speedo: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...al-on-r56.html. For the speedo only, you can skip the middle steps where he demonstrates taking apart the center console.
For those of you that cut slits to slide around the needles rather than popping off the needles, how did you cut your tach overlay. I know most have cut along the zero line so that it lies behind the needle when the car is off. My question is did you cut directly through the dash and 0, or did you cut down that line and then go around the number 0 and dash?
Also, how much double sticky did you use on the back of the speedo gauge. I had installed one previously, but was having problems with it warping. Not sure if I messed it up when installing and bent it too much, or the high heat we've had recently. Just trying to see how much sticky tape everyone used and where you placed it.
Thanks for the help.

my speedo just started warping in the warm weather too...
i went to the extreme on the tach and cut out the entire clear section that would go over the screens. Mine got scratched and trying to clean it up only made it worse. I decided I'd rather spend 20 mins cutting them out then settling for them being scratched and looking like crap. It made it really easy for where to cut, Just a small little slit in the thin portion below the needle.

Here are a couple of links that helped me, post #40 in the second link has a couple of links to instructions and pictures that guided me through the whole process. Cutting the new face to slide over the needle was the only way I could do it cuz the needles were never going to come off!

Is anyone else, besides DFW137, having issues with the speedo gauge overlay warping in the hot summer temps? Any recommendations on how to fight it? I'm wondering if it's cause I cut it to slide it over the needle. It seemed like I layed a lot of double stick tape, but that didn't work. Any ideas? Thanks.
mine's so bad it actually is messing up the movement of the speedo needle.
I'm going to take mine apart and use most of the tape in the center, none at the edges.
The problem is that the plastic that was used has a high expansion rate. If you put it on in cool weather, when it heats up it expands. with tape cut up and put in a ton of locations it will cause it to bunch up.
and yes, I just worked very slowly with an exacto knife to cut out the clear areas on the tach.
