I probably could, except I would like them to at least let some light through.

Smoked lenses

Here are some pics of a smoked lens I made. This one actually lets light shine through.

Smoked lens is on the right, home made clear on the left.

With blinker on

and off

I don't think the orange shows through. I had a silver painted bulb in these pics. I'll try an amber tomorrow.

Think you could make a clear set of fender markers the same way?

You're talking about these right?

It could be done. A mold would have to be made for each lens or one mold with all 4 lenses. I haven't taken them out to see how hard the mold would be to make.

It's too bad you have to take apart the headlight to change the orange reflector into smoke....unless I'm mistaken....I did opt for the $100 clear side markers and tail light lens if that makes any difference. Reading this https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...9&postcount=46 makes me confused. So if I have halogens w/ the $100 clear side markers all I need is a different bulb? It looks to me like I have the amber lens in there but I guess it could just be the reflection of the amber bulb that's in there.... any insight?

Yep, looking at your pics your bulb is amber with a clear lens. You can either replace it with a Sliverstar or Silvervision or you can lightly spray your amber bulbs silver. But to change the lenses to smoked then yes you'd have to take the light apart. But to smoke your side lenses you can cover them with film.

Hey thanks for the info. I'll look for those up tomorrow. Page 104 of the manual shows going through the wheel well - I just want to make sure that's correct. The book says it's a PY21W bulb and I did a search for Philips Silver Star PY21W but only found european dealers. Anyone got a place to pick them up in the states?

The ones I got from Autozone were Sylvania Silverstars 1156A ST. I think they have a slight blue or rainbow look to them, but they're only $12.99 a pair. I also saw them at Checker Auto (might be Kragen or Schucks).

When I go on their website (both autozone and sylvania's) it shows that I need Sylvania Silver Star 7507AST - the link is here - http://www.autozone.com/R,2145566/ve...ductDetail.htm

From what I'm reading the 1156's put out 27w rather than the required 21w.

For now, I've decided that the "egg yolk" doesn't look that bad on my pure silver cooper. I did change the side markers, though.

Got a picture of that? Did you change the bulb or the lens or both??

There's a picture at this link from fastmini.net where I bought mine. It's a complete replacement sidemarker with a white lens and a new bulb that is whiter to look less like an egg yolk. If I had ChubbyChecker's skills, I would have molded myself some new lenses.

Gotcha...I confused the side markers with the reflectors in the wheel arches (b/c I'm looking to smoke those out somehow other than tinting them). And I'm still trying to figure out where to buy the silver star bulbs (the chrome ones that light up amber) - reading other threads it appears the turn signal in the headlight lens is a 7057A and the rear turn signals are 1156A - I'll have to find a link to the post I was reading.

sorry about confusion. i realized a little later that i should have been more specific especially since y'all were talking about the arches in this thread as well.

Yeah I'm totally confused now on the actual bulbs. I thought they were 7507's and then I read this - https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...1&postcount=36

says 7506's - so I haven't ordered anything until I know for sure.

i actually was going to do the same thing with these, but i pulled them out and was disappointed to find they are two pieces glued together. the lense, and a backing piece for the bulb to mount to. there is a space between the two where the reflector shape which you cant get to while they are together. so you will probably have to break the back piece to get the lense to a state where you could mold it, unless you just want a big block of plastic.

Ok. I need help. I removed my orange lenses (with the help of Chubby's PDF, thanks for that), and now I need a pair of bulbs that are CLEAR but flash AMBER. I am totally confused as to which company offers them, and which size to get. HELP!

Oh, and does anyone know if it LEGAL to have white turn signals? If it is like California, then I'm good.
