I just purchased a 2004 mimi S- red w/ black roof and sunroof. What I want to do is to install the checkerboard vinyl graphic package on it. The dealer says that they only do the solid (non perforated) version. I have checked and found several companies that do make these graphics.

My question is this: Has anyone attempted to install these themselves? And if so how difficult was it to install? Any special tools or any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Jim

Welcome to MCO Jim.
For all sorts of roof graphics, try talking to Matt at Cooperflags.com. There are installation instructions on his site, so you can get an idea of difficulty. I think Gabe at http://www.bridger.us/mini also has instructions posted, even more detailed than Matt's.

Thanks....Cooperflags was one of the companies that I talked to. They seem to have a ton of cool roof designs. Thanks again

Hey folks
I landed up special ordering the checkerboard roof (for black roof and sunroof) from MossMini about 4 weeks ago. It should be in in a couple weeks. I checked on the progress of my MCS and it finally has been built and is awaiting transport from the UK. Maybe I'll get it B4 snow hits Ohio. I'm going crazy checking into ordering all kinds of stuff, like the borla exhaust, new super charger pulley, 4 point seat belts, etc. My friend races his civic at Mid Ohio and Nelson Ledges and wants me to come and race with him....this I don't know about yet, but may consider it if I get brave enough.

Man I want that MCS now!!!!! its been forever forever so far!!!

Hi Jim,
Depending on how the graphic is supplied ( how many individual / distinct
sections or pieces ) and whether or not it has a 'pre-mask' - and if you happen
to not have experience in applying adhesive graphics, it would be quite
difficult for you. The trickiest thing for someone new to this, the adhesive is
really sticky and if you get the slightest 'miss' in placement, it's almost im-
possible to 'lift' & re-position without distorting the graphic, as it stretches
somewhat. ( I've done vinyl graphics for 17 years - - - if you happen to be
near Chicago, I could quote you on doing the application.)

Jim - if you have any problems with the Moss delivery let us know. We have these in stock and can ship same day. The instructions posted on our site will not help you with the application your getting from Moss -just as an FYI.

Al, are there temperature restrictions on applying graphics (as in minimum working temps)?

Warmer is better than colder, but if the roof is too hot it makes things tough too. Anything below 60 and the material gets harder to handle. Real humid weather can also cause some issues, but not as much as the cold weather.

Hi Mini-Matt
Thanks for the info. I seem to be having a slight issue w/ Moss @ CarVogue. The roof was shipped from the UK on Sept 18th but Moss still doesn't have it. Right now they are trying to locate it. So I may be cancelling that order shortly.

You folks at Cooper do carry the checker board for a black roof and perferated for a sunroof, correct?

Thanks again

Jim
PS.....It's snowing here in Northern Ohio today...ARGH, I had hoped to get my MCS B4 the weather hit.....Looks like when I get the MCS it may be spending some extended garage time while I trudge through the snow with my Subaru.

Hi Al.

Well I wasn't sure if I would attempt to install the roof, but now I'm sure that I won't. Classis Mini (where I am buying the MCS from) does install roof graphics, so I am having them do it....assuming I ever get the graphics from MossMini.

Thanks for the info

Our graphics work on all roof colors. Take a look at our gallery section and you will see several Red, White & Blue flags on cars with Black mirrors. If Moss does not work out let us know.

We also have a complete instructional video, available now, that will walk you through the steps of the installation to make things easier or you or your installer.

I have a BRG MCS with a checkered roof. It's really amazing how the dealer put it on. You see, it's not just one graphic. All the squares are individual and none of them touch. What I mean is that from a distance the squares look like they touch (there's about an 1/8" space between the corners thay creates a visual tention) I don't know why they went through the extra trouble. Why not just have one big graphic that's simple, right? I think maybe because then visually the corners would appear to "run" into each other. Who knows. But I think it looks great and you should get it down to your sun roof if you can find the right vendor, but I wouldn't do it yourself unless you really know how. There's alot of technique involved.

I just got the call from Classic Mini. The car is ready for pickup. I'm get6ting her tomorrow and I can't wait. Unfortunatly the roof graphic is stuck on some boat in California and may be 2 weeks B4 I get it. That's OK though, I'll just bring the car back and let Classic install it then.

Let's Motor!!!!!!!! (....tomorrow)
