Interior/Exterior Installed MINI-FINI cupholder today (pics)
The mats are the 2002 USA version MINI OEM rubber mats. They changed them for the USA for 2003 to the ones with the little dots that you can get at the dealership now. Some genius decided that stupid Americans could get their foot caught in one of the rings and then sue, so they changed the design for the US.
They are still available in other countries. I got mine from a Canadian ebay seller called stuffstuffandmorestuff for $60 plus shipping.
Some have said they thought the ring design was lame but I like it (and of course mine is the only opinion that counts).
The matching rubber boot mat is available too (which of course I also HAD to have). If you'd like to see a pic of that, let me know.

>>Just an FYI: The clamp piece is installed upside-down in my pictures. That's what I get for not reading the instructions first.
>>
Obviously, yours was missing this:

Odd that your shifter hits it in 5th gear. Mine does not. Do you have the stock shift **** or aftermarket? My shift **** is a Whalen.

Good to know, I have a Whalen and will be getting the Mini-Fini cupholder.

I have the stock shifter. If I install the clamp high enough so the cupholder can swing all the way to the left, and shift into 5th, the shifter hits the cupholder only at the furthest point of travel. Once shifted into 5th, it doesn't quite reach it.
I like it better clamped at the very bottom of the downtube anyway, so no harm.

>>Big bucks and does not look deep enough to hold a Big Gulp. I got a Big Drink Holder at Mini Mania for $15.00 less and I can put more then one in the Mini for friends. :???:
Mine was just under $30. I got a discount at my Mini dealer. I don't think that is bad at all for a well designed part. It does indeed hold a Big Gulp just fine.

Just so you know, if you install the cupholder all the way down on the downtube, there is still a tiny bit of space left for the center organizer to squeeze by the now enlarged tube on the right. See the picture posted and you will see how snug it all is. It still will work so don't let that stop you from enjoying both.
>>Another FYI: the instructions say to install the clamp piece at least 2 13/16 inches (71 mm) up from the base of the console. I found that if I did that, the gearshift could hit the cupholder when in 5th gear (and the cupholder was swung to the left). I like it sitting lower anyway - it's less noticable.
>>
>>I saw nothing wrong when I installed it as low as possible on the downtube. It couldn't swing to the left as far, but I'd never want the cupholder hanging over the console anyway. YMMV.
>>
I think I've found the reason why MINI recommends 2 13/16 inches up from the base of the console.
As soon as I received my car I moved the plastic around the downtube to the bottom, as low as it would go. I liked that position better because it would interfere less with my passenger's leg.
Then tonight I carried a rear seat passenger for the first time. When I flipped the pax front seat forward - yup, it ran right into the cupholder. No matter which position I adjusted the cupholder to, I could not move the pax seat forward. My cup-link is now moved back up to the middle of the downtube.

i have that cup holder...actually, came with my car. its good to carry my
wallet and celphone... it gets in the way of the front passenger's left knee
though and when you try pushing forward the passenger seats it hits the
cupholder.
if you're the sole passenger, the cupholder will workout great. it'll hold a
large mcD's drink without problems...and most tall coffee mugs.
