Interior/Exterior Installed MINI-FINI cupholder today (pics)
Very cool! Thanks for the pics, I was waiting for these to come out. I think I'll have to wait another 5000 miles or so for my first scheduled maintenance to get it, I don't think it's worth the hour-plus drive to the dealer. I wish we could order these, but they're only available at the dealer. I can't wait to see pics of the armrest when they are out also.
>>My local MINI dealer said that they didn't carry MINI FINI and that it wasn't authorized by MINI USA. What the heck is going on? I want cuplink...
Ruf,
Your dealer is 'out of the loop' so to speak. Some dealers won't know they carry them until the box arrives on the truck.
As for being authorized by MINIUSA, your sealer is feeding you a line to cover up the fact that they have no idea what you're talking about.
Or something like that...

Totally expected from Momentum MINI. "Hi I know more about the car than you. You are just an uninformed consumer." Idiots.

>>Picked it up on the way to work. Installed it (took <1 minute) , but haven't used it yet. Pretty rugged plastic - should hold up well. $35 + tax.
>>
Looks great - you beat me to it! I'm going to be meeting with MINI-FINI next week and hopefully should have reviews of the cup holders, the armrest and the rear link system on my site then. The pics look great!

Your dealer said that, or the parts guy at your dealer? If you're not talking to the parts guy, call him. If you are, then tell him to look into it.
I asked the parts guy at Peabody MA 2 weeks ago to let me know when they come in. He left a message yesterday (sunday) that they were in so I stopped on the way to work and picked one up.
BTW, he also said the the official line is not to put one on the driver's side for safety reasons.

>>How big is it? As in, what will it hold? (no, i'm not looking for a cupholder for a 64 ounce drink, just a medium sized bottle of dasani...)
I don't have a medium bottle of Dasani handy to test with.
The big area on the top isn't deep enough to keep a bottle in, so I'm not counting that. The largest usable diameter measures at about 3.25" and that will be tight.
I'd say any bottle up to 3 1/8" in diameter will fit comfortably.

That cup holder looks like a very good solution. Actually the neat thing about the unit is not the cup holder but that post adaptor. You could use that adaptor for mounting a whole bunch of stuff from iPods to cell phones to whatever else you could think of, very nice unit. $35 is seems a bit steep, but it is the best solution I have seen so far. Nice find.
Clever attachment design. I like that. I however like to drink sodas from cans and they fit great in the regular cup holders, as does a 500ml water bottle. Larger beverages fit just fine in the rear holder and I have perfected the reach-around technique to retrieve my Sonic cherry limeade from the rear.
Nonetheless, it is a cool new bit of MINI stuff.

Go to http://www.minifini.com and you'll see all kinds of uses for those brackets. I've been waiting for that rear link system for a cargo platform. My dealer said they weren't going to carry these items. Princeton Mini. Anyone know otherwise? Or where in NJ, PA, NY or CT I can get this stuff?

Really? Princeton said they wouldn't carry this stuff? They're my dealer, and I was counting on them getting it. Oh well, thanks for the info.

Just an FYI: The clamp piece is installed upside-down in my pictures. That's what I get for not reading the instructions first.
When installed correctly, there are detents so the cupholder has 4 or 5 positions to lock into. When installed incorrectly (as in my pictures), the cupholder swings back and forth more freely.
Another FYI: the instructions say to install the clamp piece at least 2 13/16 inches (71 mm) up from the base of the console. I found that if I did that, the gearshift could hit the cupholder when in 5th gear (and the cupholder was swung to the left). I like it sitting lower anyway - it's less noticable.
I saw nothing wrong when I installed it as low as possible on the downtube. It couldn't swing to the left as far, but I'd never want the cupholder hanging over the console anyway. YMMV.
One more thing: Before slipping the open end of the clamp around the downtube, you might want to stick a piece of tape on each end where the bolt goes through to protect your downtubes from being scratched. Just pull the tape off after it's on the downtube fully. I had no scratching on my anthracite, but those with the less robust silver paint might want to take the precaution.

I luv raw fish too. For my B'day, my wife brought home a platter of about three pounds of sushi. We ate the whole thing in something like three days, Ever had Tuna sushi for breakfast? MMMM, good!
