While I too have a few nicks and flakes from the interior, I just bought some Testor's aerosol model paint (made for plastic), in both the color I wanted and clearcoat. This week, I'll be a modifying my interior with a custom painting. I expect decent DIY results, same as if I used touch up paint from MINI. You may want to consider this option.

Hey Dennis,

I just posted more details on repainting the interior door handles etc...
here
It is tricky. Painting over the silver trim - if that is what you have - is hard, since not much sticks to the silver trim, and the silver trim does not stick well to the plastic underneath. As detailed in my other post, removing the door Y-brace pieces for repainting is a real pain, and reattachment evern worse, because they are simply plastic welded into place.

2 questions: what colors do you have?
Is this normal wear and tear on your car? If so, I would take it to the dealer, they will put in new door panels (that's what my dealer would have done if I had not decided to repaint myself).

Cheers,
M.

Forgot to add:
the colors I used are not normal interior colors, so they would not help you.
I went to a car place. They may have the code for MINI colors in their mix system, or they can match the paint you need if you bring your car there.

The color of the silver trim pieces (Door pulls and Dashboard center downtubes) is called "White Silver" according to the folks at MINI UK. (This still applies if you have the MCS Alloy Patina interior trim).

If you have an all High gloss silver interior, you'll notice that for some wacky reason MINI did put a nice lacquer coat in the dashboard trim prices as well as the sorroundings of the door panels but they totally left the pieces with the most use (Read: wear and tear) like the door pulls and the dash down tubes without the protective coat of lacquer and the end result is lots of ugly scratches and paint peeling galore.

The paint on this hard plastic pieces is shamefully soft and damages easily even if you use "White gloves" treatment with the car. Notice that all pieces with the lacquer coating look great and are almost bulletproof when it comes to resisting scratches.

The silver paint is not hard to find. Suggestions include silver paint for hard plastic hobby model kits (Like Testors) or even silver paint used for arts and crafts (Acrylic paint) intended for hard plastic or porous surfaces. Another approach is to order an "Autosharp Pen" from one of the MCO sponsors (http://www.autovisuals.com/) in "Pure Silver" (You can use it for both exterior and interior touch up jobs). The paint code number is #900.

If you are truly annoyed with all the scratches in the door pulls, then my next suggestion would be to yank them out and re-spray them in White Silver and then put a nice coat of lacquer (They way it should have been done) and presto! No more ugly looking door pulls.

Several posters over at http://www.mini2.com have done this and I will be doing the same fairly soon as I don't see those door pulls looking too good a few years down the road.

My upcoming '04 MCS will have the much, much, much more scratch resistant Anthracite interior trim, so I am looking forward to better durability there in comparison to the nice but scracth prone high gloss silver trim.

Hope this helps.

I'm looking for a blue that is similar to that of the Lapis leather, From Testor's I chose the Arctic Blue, although the French Blue was a close second for me. However, Markus's job is completely professional, maybe he will shame me into getting something more than just model paint.

I had a couple of scratches on my door handles. While I was at Lowe's this weekend I found some Sharpe Fine Point Permanent Markers in Silver Metallic, two pens for $2.18. So I figured what the heck and bought them. My wife said it may work but try it where you can not see it. Well, I tired it right on the first scratch in the middle is passengers door. The color is pretty good but a little darker. I did not like it so I figured I would wipe it off, oops permanent marker. So I got out my bottle of Mother's buffing compund, put a little on rag and rubbed the spot I just used the marker in. Well, it blended in perfectly, cannot even see where the scratch was. Even my wife was shocked. So I went and fixed the 3 other scratches. The doors look new again.
