HELP! - I need to remove my downtubes

I have a 2006 Cooper Cabrio. I'm trying to remove and replace my downtubes and I need to remove the center console (the part with the shift and cup holders) to get the downtubes out. I found information on how to do this but I'm hung up on one part. I need to pop out the switches for my power mirrors and heated seats so I can access two more screws that will release the center console. I read in one thread to pull out the ring around the shift and reach under to release two clips that will release those switches, but I can't find those clips.

So to summarize, I just need to know how to get the switches for my mirrors and heated seats out so I can reach those two screws holding the center console in. After that I know how to get the downtubes out and put the new ones in.

Please help me oh great NAM Gods of the universe.

Most of the time we have pulled the downtubes out without pulling the center console. There is enough wiggle room...

Well, on the MINIs made since 2005 there is a flare at the bottom of the tube and you have to pull them out through the bottom of the center console. So that's why I need to be able to remove it.

Just pry it up..

That switch plate can just be pried up ... I used a plastic putty knife so as not to scratch anything...Haynes manual just shows using a screw driver. Once it gets started up you can get your fingers on the clips. Release the multipin connector(s) b4 you go too far. You don't need to mess with the trim ring around the shifter at all...

Haynes section/page 12.4 .... illustration 4.9

This matched my 02....

Thanks for that! I got it out and my downtube install is complete. This completes a project I have wanted to do for a long time. Gonna clean up the MINI and post some photos. Thanks!

Nice job! I was going to reply, as I'd already had the very same struggle (on the same model - '06 cabrio) that you did in replacing my own tubes (changed from anthracite to CF), but I see I was beaten to the punch. Great look!
