Want to Get Roof Painted

Hiya.

I bought an '04 MCS a few weeks ago, and it was just about exactly what I wanted. Except for the roof. It's body color (Indi Blue), and I really have my heart set on a white contrasting roof and mirror caps (which, oddly enough are currently black...some people, huh?). I do have a sunroof.

Now, a good paint job is my first priority, but I also don't want to pay an arm and a leg if I don't have to. Does anyone know about how much it should cost to paint a roof with sunroof and the mirror caps? Also, is it sufficient to tell a paint shop that I want them painted white, or is there some specific paint I should reference?

And if, by some chance, someone has a recommendation of a good place in the Phoenix metro area to get this done, that would be fantastic.

Thanks.

Contact your nearest dealer and find out where they get body work done. They should know what to do as well as knowing the paint code (no, not all 'whites' are the same).

The mirror caps are plastic. They pop-off/on. Keep an eye on the classifieds and you should be able to find a white one. This goes for the spoiler as well.

Don't know if there's a difference between MC and MCS spoilers (my cabrio didn't come with one), but there's a white one from an R50 at:

I just painted my top last week! It was Red with a White top and I wanted all Red. I went to 4 different body shops and they were all about the same price. I went with the cleanest shop. If they keep their shop clean, they probably care about the cars.
Anyway, the job turned out like it came from the factory (maybe better) and cost me 500 bucks. That did not include the mirrors though cause I went with C/F.

Hmmm....your ID doesnt look familiar so... www.dynamicminicollective.org try searching there for Elwood Paint and Body. He does most of the paint work for the club.

I'm actually going to do the roof of our Odyssey in checkers... with hood stripes (Ody's don't have "bonnets", unless they're worn by extremely young female passengers in car seats). At 120kmiles, it deserves some "bling". Maybe I'll do cf mirror cap (decals) as well, just a "thumb the nose" toward sporty cars.

I'll stop short at the paint can exhaust tip - it won't clear the hitch - unless maybe I use a genuine JDM paint can... hmmm... maybe a SOUP can, yeah that's it!

But I digress, I have to say the white roof is the way to go, esp. with CR.

What are the benefits of the vinyl? Cheaper and undoable?

I don't see myself wanting to undo the paint job. Also, I should have mentioned, I want the sunroof to remain uncovered (I've since looked at the vinyl sites and seen sunroof-covering packages; this is not something I want to do).

How long would a vinyl covering last? Does it really look convincing?

Use vinyl. I have an Indi Blue 03 with a white top. I will probably keep the white top but if I was to change it I would use vinyl. That way you could always change it back and the cost is 1/2 that of paint. I also have a set of white mirror caps I would let go for cheap.

Don't cover the sunroof (that looks a little goofy, but with perforated vinyl it'd make the interior of the car less bright on those heavy-sun days). Just have the sides done. It's less expensive than paint, and is undo-able - but unless done by a really skilled application person, may look less than perfect and won't quote shine like paint. If you want a permanent change, though, find the best bodyshop in your area and let them have at it with GOOD paint!

Paint it. Expect to pay at least 500 for a good job.
