Interior/Exterior Changing color of guages
Changing color of guages
I was at a local car center yesterday in germany and was talking to another mini owner. He had all of the LED's removed on his dash guages and speedometer and replaced them with a very nice looking blue color to match the other ones in the car (except the orange screen on the onboard computer). I asked him where he got it done but he said it was done by the previous owner. Thinking it might be different on the Eurospec models I asked him if his was one, but said it was US spec. I know there is LED kits to change the interior lighting in the car but I havent seen a kit or guide on how to do it for the dash. Does anyone know? Im not even sure it can be done, so maybe he had to buy after market guages with the LEDs preinstalled? Thanks for the inputs!

Yeah its an R56. He was originally showing me his exhaust and other interior mods that were done on the car and then I noticed the gauges . . . and it looked freakin' sweet. But I dont know about ripping a tach and speedometer apart on my own to change LEDs, I would be afraid of breaking something. And my luck the guy wasnt the one who did the mod so he couldnt help me ; ;. Anyways I was doing some research for after market guages with blue lighting and I havent found jack on it, so I am really curious on how he got it done now!
We have a set of 07+ gauges coming in the mail. We will be making custom gauge face overlays.
When I have them opened up, I will look to see what is involved in changing out the LED's. If it is similar to the previous model, then it just requires replacing the stock orange LED's with blue ones, using a soldering iron.
If we decide to tackle this, we can swap out gauge clusters with those interested!

That looks so sweet. I would definetly invest a lot of time into changing the LEDs to get a look like that. I would also like to know how you change the colors of the computer displays like that because it looks amazing!
The orange is the one single thing I don't like about MINI's. I would much prefer a bluish backlight. Unfortunately, I don't have the expertise, nor the local business (in Montana) to get something like this done professionally.
that looks quite nice. i was thinking of a more darker blue. if not red haha. it looks amazing though. would say that it might make the interior a bit too bright. (but that's just me).
Would definately be intrested in something like this.... kinda nervous though.
