Grille suggestions

I have an '06 MCSc with the chrome line package. I like the chrome but I'm starting to find that I don't like all the chrome on the grille. It seems to make the car to conservative, almost like a Benz. The aero kit grille is interesting but I find it doesn't have enough chrome. And I don't really like a lot of the 3rd party grilles, like the M7; I love M7 but I find their grills too metallic and harsh looking.

I think what I ideally want is chrome around the grille, but the slats or grid inside the grille to be black. So I guess I want to either de-chrome the chrome slats in my grille or get a aero kit grille that is chromed around the edges.

Any suggestions on how I might do either? Can you remove the chrome that covers the horizontal slats of the standard MCS grille? Or find an aero grille that is chrome around the edges?

Thanks!

I have an OEM black grill and it is reasonably priced: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...33754/cat/1147

Others have painted or applied black vinyl to the slats with good success.

You are not the only one. I am probably going to the Aero front bumpur soon but I don't like the Aero grill. One with chrome edges would be perfect but I have yet to find one. I am buying a grill from someone else and just going to use he stock chrome lower grill with the normal grill on top.

The best I ever have found is a stick on chrome one at Minispeed and Moss Mini but you still need the regular grill under it.

I wish M7 would make their grills smaller for inside the Chrome.

Great. This actually sounds like the best solution for me. It looks like popping out and replacing the bonnet grille is pretty simple. What about the upper bumper grille slat?

You might check out GrillGuy or GrillCraft and make your own.

Removing the bonnet grille simply involves taking off the nuts, but if you want to sell or preserve your chrome grille it's a bit tedious to remove the nuts while minimizing damage to the soft plastic posts they screw onto. A 10mm hex socket on a screwdriver style handle works well for turning the nuts.

The bumper grille single slat is attached with double stick tape. Use a hair dryer to help loosen and lift up one end of the slat, then slip dental floss under it and pull to cut through the tape.

Yep, this is what I did as well. I also would love to have chrome around the aero grill. I don't like it all black. I'm surprised no one has come up with one.
