White top to black or carbon fiber

I have a white top and I hate the white and want to paint it black. But i'm wondering if it would be cheaper to get an all black vynl sticker put on or maybe a carbon fiber design with a clear coat over it to make it look legit. Possible?????????? thoughts?????????????

Well, obviously in the end it's up to you but I'm more partial to the CF idea (if that's the theme you're going for) or some other more creative use of vinyl. Simply painting it black or doing a black sticker seems a little pointless to me when there's so many other black roofed cars already out there.

Maybe it is time to put on your thinking cap and come up with a large roof graphic that will suit you. Seems a waste to just turn the roof black.

I'm not sure if you are talking about overlaying carbonfiber over the existing roof or using a sticker that looks like carbon fiber.

I was told by a very good source that the CF vinyl overlay will fade quick and look like shizzle. If you could get a good clearcoat over it..maybe it MIGHT work. But, I was told the sheet would have to get replaced ever year or so if you dont.

i have a white top and have never liked chili red with white roof. to fix this, i went with a custom union jack roof that uses black instead of blue and goes all the way down to the edges. you would never know my roof is white now. i even replaced my spoiler with a black S spoiler.

IMO, I think the carbon overlay would look really nice. But a clear would have to be put over the vinyl so it can last.

This is all a personal taste thing...

get in touch with Aesthetic Creations to discuss your vinyl ideas.

But personally, I'm really down on things that looks like something they're not, seems to be almost a carcature. But what I think doesn't matter, as it's not my car!

Do what makes you happy, one thing with vinyl is it's cheeper to do as your mood changes than real paint.

Matt

ps, even if I had a carbon fiber roof, I'd paint it, but that's just me!

One thing to consider is dark vinyl does not have the gloss and is very orange peely. Especially in a very large area. So in my opinion paint in big areas and vinyl in small areas in lighter colors. When you open your bonnet you will see the the different colors (when you change the color with paint you would have this area done too) and that can be an eyesore.

I knew that it would be. If you ever do pursue this let me know I would love to watch this process, or lend another hand for wrenching.

I would also, have to paint it. You do not want too many people knowing what you put into this car.

He wanted chrome and I gave him chrome...
Far be it for me to stop him...It would be a HORRIBLE idea though!

I have no idea why anyone would spend ~$2000 on a "chrome roof" from them, but that is the only one I remember seeing.

High3nd-I say go with vinyl and have fun with it. And you can change it up when ever you want.

As crazy as I am going to sound, we actually considered this for my wife's 2006 Purple Haze / Silver Cooper. Purple and chrome look so good together that it would be an interesting show car with that chrome roof.

What scared us away was a disclaimer stating that they would not guarantee that it would not arrive without some cosmetic flaws.

A $2000 insane piece like this had better be absolutely perfect or its worthless.

So we just suffer here with our plain old silver painted roof.

If I win the lottery, I'll have a chrome shop do up a real replacement roof in real chrome.

Doesn't Cooper Aesthetic Creations have a blackout vinyl kit for the roof for $200 or so?

Found it... http://www.aestheticreations.net/gra...utfullroof.htm

If you want to black it out, I'd go that route...just me though.

I think a custom roof design in Vinyl would ROCK! The CF Vinyl will cost a small mint, and the seems will be very hard to manage. Paint would be a better long term investment in your MINI then CF Vinyl. IMHO

Yeah, but how long is a Maaco roof going to last ?

A hundred bucks ? Anyone that quoted a hundred bucks to paint the roof is either related to you or doing cheap work. Most good paint guys are going to charge three times that much. Geez, it cost me a hundred bucks to get my mirror caps painted !
