Mosquito Stuck INSIDE Tailight!

While my MINI never ceases to amaze me,
this is one thing I wasn't expecting!
I noticed while Jesse was waxing the MINI.....
Which looks great now, btw

But THIS is what we found!!!!

EEEWW!!!!

I'm not sure how this happened. There doesn't appear
to be any gap around my tailight. So HOW did an
entire mosquito get INSIDE the tailight!!!?? Is there any
way to get the thing out? It looks like only thr exo-skeleton
is left, so that thing could sit and decay for years!
Am I stuck with this mosquito corpse in my MINI
for the entire world to see forever???

(oops, somehow this thread got into 2nd gen MINIs.
didn't mean for that. feel free to move)

A hitchhiker!

No matter how far you drive, you'll
always have a mosquito on your tail!

We figured he'll be there for a while
now so we named him "Skeeter the Skeed"

I've never examined to see how the tailights are put together, but I'm sure your only option is to remove and disassemble it. A bit of a hassle for a lousy mosquito, but I know it has to be "bugging" you.

Try adapting a smaller hose to a vacuum cleaner. Remove the bulb and suck that sucker out of there.

New cars are bound to have a few bugs in them.

Possibly....but having opened the taillights on multiple occasions, there really isn't any gap there that you could suck through. The chrome ring and the red part are actually all one piece on the face lft tails.....and they are sealed up against the clear lense. I have heard of this happening before and i have no idea how to explain it....but there aren't any open holes for them to fly through. Maybe they get in there when they're being built?

But my MINI is almost 2 years old. I would have noticed
that thing in there before, unless it just now got rattled around
to where it;s visible? I don't know...freakin' bug.

Couldn't you remove the tail-light assembly and remove the reverse bulb and shake the little critter out that why? It seems the reverse bulb is visible from the lens. So removing that would allow you to shake 'em out once you remove the entire assembly. Do ya get what I'm saying?

Is it really bothering you that much? Just leave it alone...other than those you have already told, no one will notice .... it'll be our little secret. Mick

Hey UKDragon...

This is a very strange coincidence. Just yesterday I was opening the boot to get Christmas gifts out at my parents house....and saw an insect in my right tail also! It appears that the bug in my light is a small bee, not a mosquito, though.

I'm wondering how the heck he got in there! I have never had the tail light out.

Like I said...a very strange coincidence!

Edit: I just realized that this thread was first posted more than a month ago....so, not as much of a coincidence as I first thought. Still strange, though!

Wierd that I saw this thread. I washed my car yesterday and there's a bug sitting in my RR tailight too, right where the bug in the pic above sits. No way it got in through the back. I blasted the thing with power spray that'll knock you over and no water gets inside. Has to come in through the back door somehow.
