Lambo Doors on a MINI

Okay so my brother came across a little bit of money and he wanted me to look into some lambo doors for his mini.
Can anyone help me out with prices and options and different places to get them from.
thanks!

Can I be the first to say that I think that is a really really bad idea?

I'm 100% certain that he'd enjoy that money more if he used it on a driving school.

Honestly, and I'm just being honest, but I don't think he gives a damn what anyone thinks he should spend or not spend his money on. One of the things about having a mini is to individualize it the way you like it.

Madness did them and might sell the kit, didn't check their site.

I can tell you they are a PITA for ingress/egress. They don't lift that high and the angle away from the door opening is slight. One needs to be quite limber to not hit your head again and again.

I also believe that You need to cut off the old hinges and relocate the washer bottles. Thats before you weld in the new brackets and then X your fingers and hope everything pops back in place. Not for the faint of heart. I do like this mod, for my 2 cents.

In terms of quality....LSD is one of the top options for the MINI....so start investigating that option. They can allow you to open it lambo style when you wanna look "cool", but they also open normally when you just wanna get in and out of your car comfortably without caring how it appears.

I believe that is the hinge George used on the Madness MINI. I also know from conversation with him that he wouldn't do it again, but hey, it is an attention grabber, so for the one time, it was worth it to him.

LSD Doors seem to be the best of the lot - they have all the European safety certifications, and best of all, they can be opened normally far enough to get in and out of the car without having to tilt them upwards, which is nice for all those times at the mall or the grocery store when you want to play it low-key.

Installation requires a chunk of the body to be ground off and the wiring re-routed and extended - I'd only try it if you're comfortable with the idea of cutting into the car's body. Instructions can be downloaded from LSD Doors.

I've always wanted to do this MOD to my car - It's another "unnoticeable until I invoke it" modification, and one that's very striking IMHO. I had waited since my last MINI was a Lease, but now that my new one will be a straight-out Buy, this is once again on my list and I'll be doing it just as soon as I can afford the kit and the instalaltion (I'm not about to attempt this as a DIY - I know my limitations).

Sure, many people will **** and moan about the look, but you know what? they don't make my payment, so anything I do to the car I do for ME not them. As someone that has always caught a ton of flack from the "purists" for my car's MODs, I can tell you that all the internet grief in the world doesn't hold a candle to the satisfaction of MODDing your car exactly like you want it to be MODDed.

Best of luck to you, and if you do it, please be sure to document the process, as well as the Before-and-After, well!

They are hard to get in and out of but they look pretty sweet on a Mini. (I love that decepticon mini. it's so cool!)

My partner used to drive an Eclipse and he always wanted flip up doors like this for our one-car garage because of the tight space to open the doors. If you really like it, I say go for it. You only live once, right?

The Lambotek open further. Be aware the quality of the kits, hinges and struts varies far and wide. There's lots of info and threads on NAM about em. And don't worry about the naysayers. It's a polarizing subject.

Lots of photos of lots of installs at http://www.autofashion.co.uk/bmw_mini.htm

Go for it if that is what you like. The kits have been researched pretty thoroughly here on NAM, but make sure you find a shop that is qualified to do the work. If done properly, I have seen some really sweet set ups. I have also seen some pretty poorly installed ones too (hitting the edge of the fenders, poor alignment, poor welding, wiring, etc.)

Otherwise, ignore the naysayers, and do what makes you happy. I like them, personally.
